The living buddhas soul continued to uphold the barrier after his body has already died.
Naraku projected himself into the mans soul behind the barrier and deceived the soul to twist the barrier so that it will now protect Naraku

As the "Evil will of the Shikon Jewel" can seal away powers with a glance
The glance causes paralysis , loss of consciousness and permanent nullification of powers
The nullification works also against people who regulary posess a power enough to one-shot him and who he is naturally susceptible against

Time Paradox Immunity / Low Acausality
At the beginning of the story, Kagome posesses the complete Shikon Jewel inside her body. She is 15 years old and lives in the present time.
She gets dragged through time 500 years into the past and the complete Shikon Jewel gets ripped out of her body.
Kagome shatters the complete jewel into several fragments
However we learn that prior to the events of chapter 1 an acnient Mask was existing for generations, including the last 15 years since Kagomes birth, in our present time
This Mask was carved out of a tree and pierced with a fragment of the Shikon Jewel
The Paradoxon: Kagome, at the beginning of the story had the complete Shikon Jewel inside her while the Mask at the same time had a fragment of the Shikon Jewel inside it, which Kagome will later shatter as an event during the story. They coexist both, in shattered and in complete form at the same time
