• They fight on China, in the middle of the mountains.

• The Thing has 1 hour of prep time, aka it can infect any animal it wants.

• The Pyro knows how to kill The Thing. He has every single weapon in the game and there is a dispenser nearby.

I think the Pyro's going to eventually win whatever attrition war is going to happen. His suit makes it very hard for the Thing to infect it, it can stomp any animal and can probably eventually burn it down to cinders.

The Thing is weak to fire IIRC, and guess what the Pyro's main weapon is? The Pyro has the advantage here. The Thing is weak to fire, and The Pyro uses it almost all day with his flamethrower. Sooner or later, The Thing is gonna be burned down to ashes. Sure, there's it's Regenerationn, but then there's the Third Degree axe at the go. So if The Thing regenerates from a single cell, The Pyro can burn him down and slice the ashes apart. What if The Thing tries to possess him though? Well, there's his resistance to soul manip, something quite similar to that. So basically, The Pyro takes this 10/10 times.

Worst case scenario, Pyro equips the Sharpened Volcano Fragment and smacks the Thing with molten hot rocks from a Volcano. Or does Fire-Style Kamehameha on it (That apparently deals more damage than a regular flamethrower). Or hell, Pyro can just flucking atomize The Thing with the Flog.

It's Biological. The Thing converts the cells of organic creatures into it's own, turning the creature into a perfect copy of The Thing. The soul has nothing to do with it.
