A general standard for verses with "lore/on-screen" dissonance

Hello.

With each passing day, this wiki seems to get more and more series where the background lore shows a considerably greater level of power than what is shown on-screen, especially when it comes to franchises that rely on visuals to tell a story (videogames, movies, series) etc. Examples include the likes of The Elder Scrolls and Digimon, which can both pass off as mid-level fantasy settings at first glance, yet have deeper layers to be explored.

Shouldn't a standard be created to explain how we deal with those settings and the power dissonance in question? As in, whether to take the lore as primary and etc.
