Yu-Gi-Oh! General Discussion

In the anime, we see Shadi give Pegasus a test before giving him the Millennium Eye. If the person is not destined to have the Millennium Eye, the person will fail the test and go mad. Does Pegasus not going mad give him resistance to the Madness Manipulation? Or is it just a matter of him being destined?

I've started watching the series again. I'll write here if I notice anything.

Random Scaling Question do people consider the lore of the cards and anime separate for scaling and the cosmology?

Card lore does technically appear in the anime, as in, it is written on the cards, despite being nigh-impossible to read the card lore in the anime.

However, whether or not it's true for the anime versions.... Well, there isn't much evidence it IS, usually, & there isn't much evidence it ISN'T, either?

So I'd GUESS it's a case of "usable until contradicted"?

As for like card lore/backstory, like the Ice Barrier story & whatnot, I'd assume that's separate. You'd need evidence those stories AT LEAST co-exist in the same universe.

I've been trying to wrap my head around the cosmology lately and understand the finer details, Like is the Darkworld in GX the same one depicted in TCG Lore? These questions are mainly leading into to the 12 Dimensions things that came in GX and with Yubel, In the scan linked on their profile they go between talking about 12 Dimensions and 12 Universes as separate things? What do they mean by that ? Are there 12 universes in each Duel Spirt dimension or just 12 universes in the specific dimension they're in? or is it the other way around and the universe holds 12 dimensions in it? Is Yubel just referring to dimensions containing single universes inside each of those dimensions? Or is Yubel just using Dimension and Universe interchangeably? Sorry for all the rapid fire questions the wording just confuses me and i couldn't find something like a cosmology page (If there is one I'm sorry i missed it), I know this has likely been talked about here before I was just curious if someone could clarify on how that whole thing works as i know the TCG lore states there is a countless number of worlds but in relation to the lore given in the anime i wasn't sure if that meant one of those 12 dimensions could hold the TCG worlds in them or if the canons are just completely separate on that front.

Fuc.....Sky Striker Anime is so disappointing.
Only 3-4 minute episodes per month, but no great story or battle scenes are shown. It makes people look forward to it for nothing.
I'm staying pessimistic about next month's Albaz Anime.
Hopefully it gets better with future episodes.

Anyone have answers for this users' questions?

*Slifer The Sky Dragon can counteract Evil Ghost's possession ability. Later on, Marik also mentioned that ghosts with only possession abilities cannot affect Egyptian God.
Can we add Resistance Possessed to the Egyptian God Page?

Interesting, though what makes that description a reliable source?

Do you guys treat Yugioh in game mechanics like that? Isn't the the ghost possession the actual anime card effect written on Dark Sanctuary? I think this just refers to god cards in game ability to not be targeted by Spell or Trap effects, This wasn't a Shadow game so it wouldn't function like actual possession right?

Anime/Manga DM RULE≠OCG/TCG RULE
Even in the Battle City Arc with more comprehensive rules. But some duels in Manga/Anime DM still have RPG game style.

In the messages of 《Yu-Gi-Oh! R - Volume 005》, Kazuki Takahashi thanked Akira Ito for continuing the tradition of Ygo.
Considering that there is no conflict between the plot of R and YGO(Manga), as well as Kazuki Takahashi's messages. Can we consider R as Manga Timelines Canon?

This is the end of the Tenma Udoran Arc.
I am very honored to have been able to play a part in the world of Yu-Gi-Oh
through the serialization for less than four years.

The Manga is at least canon to YGO R and to my knowledge there's nothing in YGO R that'd contradict or effect anything else in the Manga timeline in a major way so personally I always considered it canon unless stated otherwise, But even if it isn't canon if you wanted to for example make a Wicked God profile you'd have to scale them to the Manga canon anyway right?

This is pretty strange considering the promo video that Master Duel got some time ago actually summarized the Sky Striker story rather nicely with some pretty kickass fights. If the plan was always to have a miniseries, they could have just done a similar story summary instead of adapting a couple of scenes without context.

There's the theory that this is just Konami using the characters from the Card Game as a way to promote his animation studio.

Went through the Sinful Spoils lore a while back. It was pretty fun and all, but was surprised how suddenly it ended. It wasn't as bad as Visas which feels that it just stoped instead of having a proper ending, but Sinful Spoils felt like if you were playing the Tutorial level of a game and then you suddenly meet the final boss.

Turns out the second Diabellstar art is from after the events of the story. Following the defeat of Azamina, Diabell tells tales of the White Woods in her own wandering puppet theatre, accompanied by Poplar and Diabellze who turned into a cat.

Well, damn! This was actually pretty friggin good. They actually did a good job introducing the setting and story in these six minutes and setting up a cliffhanger with the signature moment of the story.

On a more personal opinion, the music was pretty nice, especially the tune playing during Ecclesia's and Fleur's conversation. Was a bit surprised that they got huge names like Takehito Koyasu (Maximus) and Miyuki Sawashiro (Fleurdelis) for this. Not really familiar with Kana Ichinose (Ecclesia), I know she is Fern in Frieren and the MC of Gundam the Witch of Mercury, though.

Funnily, Koyasu already voiced Arkana in the original Duel Monsters and Sartorious in GX. I know most people think of Dio, but he was a well established legendary VA well before becoming Dio.

Interestingly, it does give a feat that the Abyss lore proper lacked, with Fleur charging at Albaz, the blast she created with her strike and Albaz taking the fall from that height.

I also find it funny:

-Fleurdelis: With your willingness to walk difficult paths is no wonder the High Priest sees you as the next virtuous vestal.

-Maximus and Aluber:

EDIT: Just found out Albaz is gonna be voiced by Kouki Uchiyama. Notable roles include Kaito Tenjo in YGO Zexal, Roxas and Ventus in Kingdom Hearts, Meruem in Hunter x Hunter, Banagher Links in Gundam Unicorn, Rean from Legend of Heroes, Rui from Demon Slayer, Glorio from Dragon Ball Daima, and many many more.

However, the manga gives no further information or definition of “advanced spells”.

BTW, as might be noticed, Discord links don't stick around long. It ain't link friendly.

Something like Imgur or Postimg may be worth consideration. (Unsure what other candidates to suggest.)

Imgur is reliable if you have an account. It's not much of an issue if you use your Google account or so.

Was it ever explained why Jonouchi in the manga was such a good fighter? I remember he was part of Hirutani's gang but doesn't seem he had any sort of training like Kaiba did, he was just that good.

Jonouchi used to fight frequently, perhaps his fighting skills were developed here.
But what you said reminded me. Jonouchi has not received specialized training, and working with Honda to easily subdue several guards through the combat skills honed from frequent fights with thugs is really impressive.
By the way, why doesn't Jonouchi Page have Supernatural Luck ability? I remember Jonouchi is famous for his exceptional luck.

Kaiba can calmly maintain balance and stand above the jet plane to summon monsters.
Mokuba's driving skills are also quite impressive (However, it is also possible that it is controlled through the jet plane autonomous driving function)

Kaiba one upping card games on motorcycles with card games on mid-flight jet planes, lol.

Speaking of, IIRC, Kaiba left Mokuba in charge of Kaiba Corp during Dark Side of Dimensions didn't he? That alone speaks volumes of how smart and capable Mokuba must be.

It looks as if DM Manga's Duellist gets the Resistance Soul Manipulation Buff?

Haven't tons of Duelist had their souls stolen, separated or manipulated like Yugi, Kaiba, Mai, Grandpa, Marik and i think Yami Bakura?

I guess it's because of Shadow Game and Penalty Game? There are games where you lose your soul as a price for losing in the game.
But honestly, it needs to be looked into.

Hmm, I tried using a GPT‑4o mini based extension I had to translate it, and its results were, "It creates a bond so strong, it's like a sword of the heart that hinders the separation of souls." So it could just be a partial resistance, and while I know the official English translations can be nebulous, they translated it as "Also known as the sword of the heart, it makes it too difficult to detach their soul." So it's possible it's just harder to use Soul Manipulation on a duelist compared to others but not altogether impossible.

I'm pretty sure the madness was just 4Kids censorship. Shadi said it would kill Pegasus if he failed the test in the original anime. The manga was also more specific, with Shadi saying all the items test the soul for worthiness and that those who aren't worthy die via their bodies and souls burning up.

So, what do you guys think?

The Paradox D-Wheel's ability to travel through time and space is through performance. I think it might not mean speed though, it might mean it might be like a time machine? Certainly the dubiousness of its feat is worth discussing
(Note that it's hypothetical, this Feat I personally think is controversial)
Let's say we consider the Paradox D-Wheel's Speed to be uncontroversially Immeasurable. could Duel Monsters be scaled to that speed?

DeepL Translated:
-[Multiverse Theory]
The opening scene is an image of the “Multiverse Theory” - the idea that there are an infinite number of universes other than the one we are in, that there is another you in another universe, and that both those universes and you are infinite. The image of this video is based on the idea of multiverse theory. I wanted to make the title “THE DARK SIDE OF DIMENSIONS” (DIMENSIONS) sound like “Yu-Gi-Oh,” as if the universe was born out of “light and darkness,” and furthermore, as if they were the birth of life. It is also a message that the universe did not start from a single card (laugh).

Google Translated:
- [Multiverse Theory]
The opening scene is inspired by the "multiverse theory"—the idea that there are an infinite number of universes other than ours, that there are other versions of ourselves in other universes, and that these universes and ourselves exist infinitely. I wanted to use the "DIMENSIONS" in the title "THE DARK SIDE OF DIMENSIONS" in a "Yu-Gi-Oh!"-esque way, suggesting that the universe was born from "light and darkness," and that these dimensions could also represent the birth of life. It also sends the message that the universe did not begin with a single card (laughs).

In the official DSOD guide, it is mentioned that the opening scene is the multiverse. In the movie, it seems to imply that these universes were destroyed or created by “light”.
I wonder if it could be scaled to Holactie, which I recall is officially mentioned several times as a symbol of light.(but to be studied)
