Character Versus Approval Evaluation Thread Idea

If this is relent on verse experts wouldn't it have a similar problem to going on staff or other peoples walls to get confirmation a match is fair the only difference is there is a chance that a supporter might be following the thread.

Well the push should be at least that people following the thread would have knowledge on verses. It could also help make people more inclined to be active in versus threads as this thread would start to be more active since people would be asking if a match is fine on here.

What does push mean in this context? It could but similar threads like Earl's Battle ideas died off and I don't know this is very community relent it might do that but it could just flop which while not being the worst thing ever would just fail to leave any impact.

Push in context would be the reason the thread does good is due to more people interacting with vs threads since this thread exist. Theres probably a lot of people who think a certain match would be cool but they just don’t read the other verse.

Okay but how does it start? Requesting staff to follow the thread is practical the same as the reason it was proposed. I don't dislike the idea it is just that little changes in the beginning at least and it would likely lead to staff quoting post @ing supporters of various verses which could be equally annoying to some if not more annoying this idea needs more discussion or at least a starting plan given how community based it would be.

I don't think pinging should be allowed since its not important like a revision

Yea I can see how this would be a little annoying. I think something that could remedy this is have members of verses similar to how we have vs thread moderators, we could have people knowledgeable from verses be given the job of helping in this thread so it isn't just a mass ping of people who scale a verse like pinging 8 Naruto supporters instead it could be 4 Naruto supporters given the title of like "Verse Knowledge".

How would that be decided, there are 1412 verse with pages and counting. While overlap certainly exists doing something like that would be impractical if we acknowledge we need a starting of point there are already people here and we can likely link stomp threads made to the hypothetical thread to spread awareness of it so from there it isn't the most guaranteed to work method but I think it would work best with the philosophy behind making it.

Well given that most of the 1412 verses don't have constant activity, I feel that number is much smaller of ones we'd have people actually a part of it.

Agree but that leave fights between more popular franchises as the only ones easily confirmed honestly I usually see a somewhat obscure character fight a popular one which leads to missing information.

Honestly, I would like to chip in and say that this is a wonderful idea. Needs a lot more polish, tho. Like, for one, all of the verses on this site have a variable amount of supporters at any given time, who could be busy with irl stuff and the like or could've fallen out of the verse that they support, plus, there isn't a good way to contact folks 'sides messaging their boards or sending a DM at them.

I modified Krukov's draft from above. Is it fine to use now?

"If you are not certain whether or not two characters featured in our wiki are sufficiently well-matched for a versus discussion thread, you can post the suggestion below, to get opinions from other members of this community. Please make sure that you link to the two relevant profile pages, and add any relevant inofmration regarding what you have in mind, such as which keys that should be used, whether the character speeds are equalised, the location of the battle, et cetera.

Here is an example for what your post should look like:

General Grievous versus Raiden with speed equalised, Disney Canon Grievous and the MGS4 keys are used."

I think that would be a fine starting post it is just the starting post in general can’t get around the problem of getting started with getting people to help to begin. How about we wait a little to see who here is willing to volunteer.

Yeah, that seems like a good idea.

Would posting suggestions on characters from fc/oc vs official characters be permitted, or should we restrict it to just official characters only? We should probably add a short sentence detailing this rule as well.

Thank you for the feedback. What do the rest of you think?

I think that only official characters should preferably be allowed.

I added the following rule text:

"Pinging is not allowed in this thread, and the bumping of specific posts should only be done with intervals of at least 15 days."

Is that acceptable, or should it be modified?

Are we allowed to link the thread in other threads to gain traction for it?

I do not know. What do other staff members here think?

I do not think that thread moderators should be required to follow that particular thread, as it isn't important enough for their assigned workloads, and regular members can also help out in this case.

True, but the thing is, normal members might not actually be precise with it, and just randomly say it's fine for no reasoning why it would be, and then later on it ends up being a stomp thread

Well, the feedback should still be helpful, and this is just not a sufficiently complicated task to burden the workloads of our staff with it.

You suggested the idea because you thought it would be better then if we went on staff walls every time why would forces staff to review a thread be and more fair to them that said perhaps they should have be notified of the thread at least.

Well, it is supposed to be a less bad alternative to lots of unnecessary and inappropriate threads being launched, but you and other tHread moderators are free to help moderate it if you wish, and hand out thread bans if people here repeatedly prove that they cannot behave themselves properly.

I just don’t think it’s worth it, in practice every relevant verse supporter would have to be subscribed to the thread, checking whenever their character is mentioned in a sea of unrelated characters, if not we run into the exact same issue of stomp matches being made.

The really unnecessary and inappropriate matches come from new or ignorant users, which just wouldn’t be on that thread, just like they never are on RVR for all intents and purposes.

I just don’t think this’ll fix anything tbh, blatant stomps come from a lack of knowledge on site policy, more site policy ain’t gonna fix it

Well, I at least think that the relevant thread should help to mitigate the problem, and we made a staff consensus decision about starting it.

If necessary, we can add a link to this to our wiki navigation bar and versus thread rules page in order to help spread awareness about its existence.

But even if that still happens, it still doesn't mean it's impossible to not make anything else easier to comprehend.

Most of these concerns aren't new it will that time yes but the thread will likely develop overtime it is just a matter of drawing attention it is far from a perfect system I pointed that out several times myself but it has potential to help and no real risk. So worse comes to worse nothing changes.
