The fact that Roger went through great lengths to ask his arch-enemy to team up with him in order to defeat a bigger foe is enough evidence to draw the conclusion that Xebec -- the captain of the rocks' pirates and the same person who trained Whitebeard, Kaido and Big mom. Kaido was never said to be the strongest when Whitebeard and Roger were around, on the contrary Whitebeard was explicitly called the strongest man alive despite being old and sick. Prime WB > Old WB > Kaido

We currently accept Prime WB ~ Old WB via the SBS and databook statements
And the Ace novel states that Kaido has the highest battle power out of all the yonko

Then why would Roger ask Garp to team up with him if he can defeat him by himself? besides, it's heavily implied that Xebec taught them Haki, and was specifically looking for his Conquerer Haki army.
I wouldn't underestimate Xebec just because we know next to nothing about him. He's the captain, who tamed the future Yonkos (Captains in One piece are generally stronger than the rest of the crew, rocks' pirates are no exception of Oda's captain rule), and needed to be erased from the "History books" along with God valley.
My guts is telling me it won't be the last time we will hear from him.

So wait we except that he's stronger than Whitebeard based on the novel but not Shanks? Even though Shanks was presumably also a Yonko at the time? Does the novel in question say Shanks > Kaido?

No the statement just doesn't include Shanks as according to the source it's hard to find information about him, it only covered Big Mom, Kaido and Whitebeard.

I'm probably one of the few people who believes that Im is gonna be some insane god tier. Of course if I'm wrong (and I likely am wrong) and their not actually strong then I'll be okay with that as long as they're really cool. I don't know I just like the idea of Im grabbing a yonko or yonko lvl beings face and slamming them on the ground and causing a massive tremor throughout that region of the work and fracturing the red line lol. That's very unlikely to happen though lol.
