Tier 2 Unlocking Thread (STAFF ONLY)

Now, it's not exactly unknown that Tier 2 threads are admin locked by default. It's how the site has operated for years now. But, I believe it's time to change that.

Of course, locking Tier 2 profiles does have it's benefits: it prevents users from abusing the tier, which tends to happen more the higher up you go in the tiering system, whether upwards or downwards, thereby decreasing the load of anyone monitoring recent edits.

However, I believe that using this as a justification for why the tier should stay locked is misguided, as it seriously undermines the responsibility of our users. Will mistakes still happen? Sure, we're all human after all. However, I think everyone can appreciate how much the site has grown in maturity since this restriction was imposed.

Also, to make it clear, I am not suggesting that every Tier 2 profile should be unlocked. Controversial or popular profiles, or profiles that dip into Tier 1, should obviously stay locked for reasons explained with much more eloquence than I could ever muster in previous threads of a similar type. However, I do adamantly believe that this course of action will significantly ease the job of responsible users on this site.

I don't mind giving this a try. In worst case, if it does not work out, we can simply lock them all again with an automated script.

However, we will have to decide which profiles that are controversial enough to keep locked, and which ones that are not.
 
I agree with keeping the profiles unlocked as default. Controversial tier 2 profiles of course would still have to be locked.
 
Tier 2 profiles with additional tier 1 ratings also have to remain locked.
 
Would somebody experienced be willing to check through the entire tier 2 category profiles list, and make a smaller list of the ones that should remain locked?
 
I can't make a list for everyone but I would definitely say that the Celestasapiens, Bill Cipher, Superman duh, Galactus, the pokemon gods should all remain locked.
 
I know this is staff only but I need to provide a really important example of why some should be unlocked.

Vilgax has a single Tier 2 weapon, and his profile is locked because of that. This can be harmful to otherwise uncontroversial profiles because it prevents profile cleanups from regular users and justification tweaks and all that.

^ This. And asking for a profile to be unlocked even for minor stuff is also time-consuming and a bit off-putting.

I'm on board with unlocking the uncontroversial tier 2 pages.

For practical purposes we need help with this, so I can handle the unlocking and locking with an automated script.
 
Well, what I need help with is a list of the exact page titles of the profiles that should remain locked.
 
Apologize for the intrution.

But by popular, does it refer to th profiles that widely known or the ones that used the most (for vs debating) in this wiki?
 
I'd like Tier 2 profiles to be unlocked save for those that pull in a lot of attention. For the purposes of the verses I put a lot of work in on- this would mean pages like, say, Culaina aren't locked since nobody has ever heard of the page except for me, whereas pages like The Lady might be better to remain locked.
 
Dimentio, Franklin Richards, Haruhi Suzumiya, He-Man, skeletor should also be locked probably.
 
Basically the characters from Digimon, SMT, DC, Marvel should be locked too. And there are also the likes of Puella Magi, Sailor Moon, and many more.

If anything, this changes nothing imo.

I agree with the first statement.

As for the second: Obviously all the Tier 2 characters from Dragon Ball, DC, Marvel will have to remain locked. As well as Tier 2 profiles from other verses that are controversial.
 
Yes, but my script needs a list of the pages that should remain locked in order to work. At least if we are going to unlock the uncontroversial pages in one go.
 
Okay. However, to explain, my script can rather quickly unlock all tier 2 pages at once, but I then need a list of the exact page titles for all the tier 2 pages that should remain locked, so I can copy-paste them into the script and run it again.
 
I know that it will take time to check through the entire list of tier 2 profiles to find the controversial and popular ones, but I don't know how else we can properly handle this.

Ah.

Then yeah, of the pages I work on, only four need to be quickly locked- The Lady, The Serpent, Vecna, and Ao the Overdeity.
 
Elder Scrolls Tier 2s should be kept locked as the verse is going under a lot of revisions AND it's being used in a large abundance of profiles at the moment.

I'm personally not a big fan on the change but time will tell if it works.
 
I can help search through, if needed. Are we gonna organize this to where each person has a different section to search through?

Also, I assume High 2-A stays locked, due to being more akin to tier 1 files as what's widely considered "higher dimensional" despite 4D fitting the bill?
 
Obviously all the controversial pages should stay locked for other reasons; this includes but not limited to every Dragon Ball, Marvel, and DC profile Tier 2 or above. However, the primary reason for Tier 2 to be locked is the distinction between 3-A and Low 2-C. However, there is also other reasons such JRPG characters being prone to downplayer attractions. So I honestly prefer to keep Xenoblade Chronicles and some Final Fantasy/Dissidia profiles locked. Also, I was informed that much of the Dragon Quest profiles are heavily outdated, which I plan to revise them eventually.

I'm neutral on the idea, but I do think we should proceed with caution before unlocking Tier 2 pages either way.
 
Well, as I mentioned earlier, we need lists of all the exact page titles for all of the profiles that should remain locked. If there are specific franchises that you are willing to list them for, feel free to do so. We can paste together all of the lists afterwards.

However, it would be very appreciated if somebody can also organise a small collaborative project of checking through different sections of the listed profiles in the tier 2 category, and note down page titles that way as well.
 
I'm ok with unlocking basic Tier 2's, controversial characters could stay locked and Tier 1's as well.

It actually bugged me when I created True Dark Genie and when I made the thread to get him his low 2-C, his page was later locked. Even though he isn't even known throughout the wiki, isn't controversial and I make content revision threads for his more heavy abilities. Just my opinion.
