Let's split this into two rounds since not everyone is capable of achieving a Bankai as far as I'm aware. If your favorite character happens to be from Bleach and already has a Zanpakuto or is incapable of getting one then they either get a second Zanpakuto or they get a Zanpakuto regardless.
Round 1: It starts off as a normal Asauchi that has yet to awaken a Zanpakuto spirit with average potential and your character gets it near the beginning of the series or after the first arc, your choice.
Round 2: It starts off as an already Awakened Base Zanpakuto and it has the potential to eventually reach whatever the maxed out form of a Zanpakuto is considered kind of like how Zangetsu had a fuckton of forms.
