Wiki Vandalism Reports

Hello, everybody.

Given my recent experiences, I have the impression that the member @Jason_Voorhees1986 is extremely untrustworthy and has had a longterm campaign to manipulate our The Dark Tower statistics to become completely unreliable.

Some months ago, he pretended to have committed suicide after a series of suspicious extreme Dark Tower revisions.

Then a "new" wiki member account recently began to obsessively attempt to change the statistics of the pages of that verse:

Then the original Jason account quickly returned, suddenly not dead after all, and attempted to coerce me to let him further change the Dark Tower pages again, and wanted me to cover up the evidence of him having faked a suicide in the process, and despite not being allowed to do so, he very significantly edited the tiering cosmology information in our The Dark Tower verse page, and when I finally mentioned that I found him very unreliable, he very quickly deleted our discussion thread, and he has likely edited his message wall posts to me there as well, so I encourage our staff members to take a look at the post history sections where it is warranted.

As such, I think that this person is a habitual extreme liar and manipulator who obsessively attempts to exaggerate the Dark Tower statistics by any means available whatsoever, and as such should be considered as being extremely unreliable, have his past revisions inspected and likely reverted, and have all his accounts in our community permanently banned.

@Jockey-1337 @Mr. Bambu

Your attention is likely needed here.

🙏
I will also ask directly ask a Fandom staff member for overlaps between the two accounts linked above, even though this seems like a quite self-evident case. 🙏
I received a reply regarding overlaps between these two accounts:

"Hi,

I see one matching IP among many on both accounts. I don't see any matching account information and neither appear to be blocked on the wiki (or any other wiki, fwiw)"

🙏
I was not involved in this matter; I presume my inclusion here is because I recently added myself as a supporter of the verse. I enjoy the novels, but have not finished them, and have little interest in discussing their contents in regards to higher end tier stuff here.

I remember the mention of the suicide clearly. Given the incidents outlined by you that happened afterwards (likely creating a sock, then returning to claim that it was a joke after going radio silence), I agree that it is likely manipulative behavior.

I cannot speak on the ratings themselves. For now I would at least agree with a ban, as the suicide thing mixed with the sockpuppet creates a particularly abysmal situation. You did not state a timeframe, though my impression is that this proposal is permanent, and I accept it under those terms.
Thank you for your reply, and yes that is why I pinged you. However, do we have sufficient evidence for banning both of these accounts? 🙏
The Jason Vorhees account, I feel no doubt regarding. That sort of behavior is questionable even without the sockpuppeting. Regarding the "Yeah boy" account, is it common for one IP overlap to exist? Would you and I experience that sort of thing, or is it an anomaly that truly suggests sockpuppeting? Based on activity, I agree that it is likely, but I am aware that IPs are finnicky.
Well, if this member uses a VPN, IP address overlaps would be rare, except when they forget to use it or switch quickly between different accounts, which would explain a single overlap. 🙏
So what should we do here? 🙏
So about this... 🙏

I was sort of waiting for more input, given the delicate manner of it. Are you quoting me to ask me, specifically, what we should do (thus saying you'd like to resolve it between us two), or bumping it in general to ask for more input?

It was a general request for input from our staff. 🙏

I deleted it.
Am I allowed to give input?
If you have something useful to say, yes of course. 🙏

I guess you could ban him for the sockpuppeting, then think about how much to punish faking suicide.

How could you tell he hadn't just gone inactive, by the way?

So is it fine if I ban Jason_Voorhees1986 and Yeah_boy382? 🙏

As someone who has been watching this situation and thinking over it carefully, I think it’s probably best to just ban them, yeah. Though, for how long were you thinking?

Would permanently be appropriate? 🙏
I think permanent would be an appropriate ban, yeah, but I also think we should potentially have a little bit of mercy. Something like a 2 year ban would serve the same purpose of punishment and dissuading from him or others doing it again, while also giving him a chance to shape up should he choose to. He seemed to want to be productive and engage on the site for real at the beginning, even if his ideas were a bit wanky, but got challenged and broke down, resulting in this.

This is all just a a me thing though and not really based in facts, and again, a permanent ban would be fine as well. Just my 2 cents.

What do other staff members here think? I would appreciate your input. 🙏

Yes. From what I recall there were a lot of suspicious revisions made by the original Jason account, and then there was a seemingly final note about a suicide without any other activity for quite a while, and then the likely sockpuppet account showed up.

Here is another likely sockpuppet account btw. 🙏

@Jockey-1337

Do you have any useful information to share here? 🙏

Maybe we should check the IP of that new account. I get home frustrating it is to keep checking IP, but if it has yet more overlap that makes it clearer.

I have asked Fandom about it now. It applied the exact same type of edits as the other two accounts within a very close timeframe though. 🙏

Also, for some reason Jason initiated a different thread to post his responses in:

Already plenty suspicious. If the IP also overlap I'd say that's enough for a ban.

Not a great attitude, calling you a liar and telling you not to speak on the matter...
