What do you mean by "absorbs the energy of a star"? If you're referring too the total energy a star gives off in its lifetime, it would be higher. If you're referring to the total energy a star gives off per second it would be lower

If it was a Sun-like Star then the total energy it gives off in its life would be around 1.5*10^34 joules, or large star level.
