My theory is that he was one of Mik's friends who wanted people to admire him for supposedly finding the long lost founder of our site that inexplicably went missing. Gaining all of our love for him. Yeah. In one of the last Popeye comics made in the original run, he defeated a 4-Dimensional being who was destroying the universe.
The comic isn't anywhere online and is pretty expensive to actually buy...but I'll probably buy it anyway.
