Option 1, for sure.
There's a lot of variables which may allow someone to win a physical fight that neither party has a lot of control over.
In a chess match against a grandmaster, they're going to be controlling the game, and without extensive chess knowledge you're going to have no idea how to counter them, or even how bad your situation is.

The lion doesn't have fist, therefore he wouldn't be able to deal damage in a fist fight.

Option 2 seems harder imo. Beating a lion is pretty much impossible using just your bare hands, but even an average person can be skilled at chess. Even an average person can analyze a playstyle. Even an average person can get into someone's head. Is it hard? Yes, very much so. Impossible? I wouldn't say so. There are various things that you don't have to be a genius to do.

Welp, I still say Option 2 is easier. Potentially just moving pieces around (without breaking the rules of the game), with no plan whatsoever, there is a chance you could beat a master. Nigh-impossible, but with the right luck...maybe.

True, but even then, you'd probably have to be above average in terms of strength to do enough damage to actually kill it.

Define "beating" a lion? I feel like it wouldn't infeasible for a person to say, manage to strike the lions eyes or some other potential peak spot and use that as some sort of opening to get away or find a way to put it down for good

Like to note that children have beaten alligators while submerged before by targeting their hypersensitive notrils. Those kinds of one sided stat stomps are winable (Even if 1/100 is an understatement) if you know where to target, and how to survive those encounters. Meanwhile, I've seen a Chess Grandmasters beat 3 people at once blindfolded, and tie with another. There's no winnable situation there.
