Type 8/9 Immortalities and Abilities Restriction

Ok, let me try to explain this with an example.

Material projections of Oryx, the Taken King have type 9 based on the real Oryx. The real Oryx is (probably) not higher dimebsional, but he does reside in a universe of his own creation, where he is unfathomably more powerful. Got it? Good.

Lets for a second pretend that material Oryx had no resistance to concept stuff. Hell, let's even strip that power from him entirely. Why exactly would conceptually killing him prevent real Oryx from just spawning another?

@Woki The fact that the concept of the avatar no longer exists would mean that it would be impossible to create another avatar, unless the person behind it has conceptual manip.

I don't see how that precludes its reintroduction though. Oryx may be a bad example for having several ways around it, including conceptual stuff of his own. Have we not treated it as needing to affect the source of the type 9, as we do with the 8?

If the concept of a character does not exist, then the character themselves cannot exist either. The very idea of them is gone, let alone their physical body. It's why conceptual destruction is an actual thing and not just a fancy word for existence erasure.

I mean, we treat it as needing to affect the source of the Immortality because that's usually far easier than preventing the avatar from being re-created. But if you actually can prevent the avatar from being created, it is a legit win, unless we allow the guy behind the avatar to step in.

Oryx has other ways around it, so I probably shouldn't have used that as an example. If we are treating it as disallowing recreation barring the bestower having stuff of their own, guess you're right Nedge. Would this apply to higher dimensional type 9 as well?

This would apply to pretty much any regen/immortality that hasn't shown the ability to come back from conceptual destruction or that hasn't any way to get around it. Although someone with Type 9 wouldn't technically fully die from it, they'd still be incapacitated.

Do we not treat higher dimensional powers as overriding all powers of lower dimenaiobal scale though? I feel like almost all of the sources to these things that become problems already have conceptual stuff, but it should be fine as a guideline if there is a character who can't do that.

Not really. Being higher dimensional does not allow you to re-create the concept of a lower dimensional being nor just bypass this. Of course, said being would still be able to manifest and attack, since they're not affected by this, but their avatar certainly is.

Well hey. Time to find someone with smurfy immortality that's reliant on something who can't deal with concept had.

Anyway, this thread has been going on for ages. Is there anyone not named Firephoenix that meaningfully disagree, or can we finally accept that?

Earl's banned for a week, and everyone's been using your suggestions for a while in threads. You should be good to change the rules.
