I'm confused. If they hit each other at the same time, then won't Discord win because the mind-control would stop being effective once Luke is dead/incapacitated?

Insanely variable. In Return of the Jedi, straight up made Jabba's palace guards they were being choked until they fell unconscious. (In the movie it isn't clarified it's mindhax, but the novels clarified this)

Other times, it's "leave this place and don't comeback"

Hmm. Well the first is obvious, and the second would be BFR since Discord would probably return to his dimension.
