I got a compromise:

Once Po gets close he wouldn't have any time to write anything. Punching is far quicker than writing, and even he starts at 60 away, he'll get to Gumball in less than 2 seconds (Baseline Subsonic= Mach 0.1 = 34.029m/s. Po is probably faster but I don't remeber by how much)

2. Never uses it in character, in a fight he starts with brawling, even when bloodlusted he starts with something else

Telepathy isn't on gumball's profile, and you even said it yourself, it only applied after bathing in toxic waste
