The Highwayman vs Malcolm Graves - It was supposed to be an easy job

Well the first Darkest Dungeon vs League of Legends match was a bust, let's try again.

Plot: Both HWM and Graves hear talk of some treasure and both broke in, it comes to blows.

Speed is equal. Fight takes place in a dilapidated casino and both are about 50 metres apart. Both Low 7-C with Graves in Base, Highwayman has no optional equipment. SBA otherwise

Elusive, evasive, persistent: 0

Here for your gold: 0

Incon: 0

It would be hundreds of meters as per highwayman's range if we're going by SBA though that seems a bi unfair for graves who only has tens of meters

Okay so since im not super familiar with Highwayman i'll just talk about Graves. Graves' combat style is honestly pretty straitforward; Shooting and dashing with smoke canisters in-between to keep opponents off balance, this way he is able to keep up a constant stream of damage while also quickly maxing out his durability buffs from True Grit

Aight so smoke might not do much, in Darkest Dungeon HWM is able to shoot targets in pitch blackness without any aid as light is a key mechanic in game. Plus Plague Doctors use smoke in one of their abilities iirc so its not like he's not familiar with it. As for durability buffs HWM could probably answer that with Open Vein and bleed out. HWM usually favours rank 2 in the party so he focuses on gun and sword play in equal measure more or less

The smoke also cuts the speed of those inside it in half, and it obstructs his view of incoming attacks and stuff like graves' explosives

Errrr, I'm not exactly sure how to quantify smth like that lemmie get back to you on that lol.

EDIT: Like is that by how much his speed is reduced or how many people it affects? Also I feel like being able to accurately shoot an opponent when your in what is described as "Black as Pitch" lighting should count for smth, plus HWM has Tracking Shot that lets him tag people that are hidden by things anyway.

By how much

I dont doubt that he could shoot Graves while hes in the smokescreen but the bigger issue is that he wont be able to see graves shooting explosive canisters at him

Okay I'll take a look through the entire enemy list of DD and see what I can find, fair enough not seeing the canisters quick question tho I'm wondering if HWM danmakus and one of the bullets hit one of them would it blow up on the spot or not?

Going to comment on this soon. Just saying beforehand that, if this helps to quantify, in Darkest Dungeon, most status effects have a power based around percentage. If, say, you have a stun move that has 100% chance to work, and I have 30% stun resistance, the stun has 70% chance of applying. However, chances can go well over 100%; if your stun chance is of 120%, and my resistance is still 30%, your stun will work 90% of the time. And in Darkest Dungeon, there are debuff moves that can affect a rather large number of enemies (If we consider that some enemies, like leeches, are multiple beings per enemy unit, I can see it being able to affect about eight or six enemies at once, if I'm not mistaken).

The Highwayman starts with 30% debuff resistance in level 0, and with each resolve level, up until level 6, he gains 10% more resistance.

I mean Graves' only debuff is blinding and even then resisting blinding wouldnt change the fact that theres still a smokescreen blanketing the area

Blinding is a thing in DD as well iirc Plague Doctor has a move called Blinding Gas. HWM can shoot things in like pitch black darkness so I question smokescreen hindering him.

I know lol we already talked about that but that wouldnt get rid of the issue of the highwayman not knowing what graves is firing at him even if he can shoot graves while in the snokescreen

Well, reading the profiles (a bit hurriedly I admit) I think that Dismas wins.

They are quite similar in stats, so I won't go in a tangent about them. Skillwise, Malcolm certainly seems to be the superior, and overall he is the one who's going to hit the shots more accurately and more often, and in general use the superior tactics. But most of his powers and abilities, as described in the profile, aren't going to be very useful or different from things Dismas is used to deal with. Grapeshot would hit and debuff Graves through any smokescreen, and with his equipment and powers, he can keep stacking debuffs and buffing himself, and dealing different forms of damage all the time.

Not an easy win, but decisively in Dismas' favour. I'll say high difficulties because of how skilled Malcolm is.
