Super Mario General Discussion Thread.

Damn, that makes me feel old. Crazy how well the Switch has endured through time, I think it'll go down in history as one of the greatest consoles. Especially with Sony and Microsoft repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot and making Nintendo look better in comparison.

Who's looking forward to the Switch U?

Well, it is the third best selling console of all time and the second best selling Nintendo console, so it already is one of the greatest consoles of history imo

Nintendo fall down with Wii U to the comeback with Switch was insane to see

Fun fact for those who didn't know: Sony and Nintendo originally partnered up in 1989 to create the Nintendo PlayStation, but Nintendo announced they were dropping Sony and now working with Dutch rival Philips instead.

Many reports are saying that the Switch sold 141.32 million units so far.

That’s not even getting into the top games sold. Like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still at the top, even after starting as a Wii U game.

Honestly? I was going to shrug and just say 'inconsistent size' and just let that be what it be...

But the mention of the Super Mario World Castles does kinda bother me now that they brought that up as an example...I genuinely don't know what I even personally think about Mario feats the more and more I sit to think on them.

I have no real input, just that it feels like I'll never have a final, most satisfying answer...
 
iirc the paper mario respect threads on reddit have a lot of paper physiology stuff listed, granted maybe they used gifrun so idk if they'll be of use
 
With the recent introduction of Radiant Peach to go alongside Giga Cat Mario and Fury Bowser, my inner child hopes to see new “super” power-ups for other characters like Luigi or Yoshi. Like I know technically we have Super Dimentio, but that obviously doesn’t count.

Also this may be a bit picky, but I hope we get a more general super power-up for Mario. Giga Cat Mario is cool but he’s intrinsically tied to basically a one-time power-up in Cat Mario, whereas Radiant Peach and Fury Bowser don’t really have any visual ties to specific forms. If Mario was to get another super power-up, I’d want it to either be its own thing like the other two or for it to be based on one of the power-ups seen in basically every game like the Fire Flower. Also I’d want it to not be giant-sized.

Basically I just want Mario to have his own proper Super Sonic counterpart lol

That’d be sick, or maybe they could bring back Dreamy Luigi and bring that power to the real world somehow.

Now that I think about it, power sources in the series are usually tied to stars, dreams, wishes, darkness or some combination of the four, right? Maybe the quartet could represent each aspect? Mario could represent star power, Luigi could represent dream power, Peach could represent wish power and Bowser could represent dark power. Although tbh you could probably combine wish power and dream power together with how often they’re a part of the same thing, not to mention they’re pretty similar in general. Alternatively you could make star power a mainly Rosalina thing and have the entire quartet just represent dreams and wishes. Idk I’m just rambling here lol
 
I don't like how true that is. It is going to make my plan to unify certain concepts as the appear across games more difficult than it would be otherwise.

Something related to Mario and cast being the star childs would also be cool to see imo

Ngl I don't mind most Mario characters not having insanely complex personalities. The main cast characters are eccentric enough to feel alive and diverse in games where they're allowed to show off their personalities like Strikers and Fortune Street. I feel like the characters not being crazy complex personality-wise works well with how the Mario series as a whole is treated but I do wish we got more things like Fortune Street where we see the whole cast interacting in unique ways.

I agree with that

Mario simple being a "light-hearted courageous guy who constantly saves the Mushroom Kingdom and its inhabitants" works perfectly to me imo

I really can´t see how his character could get more "development"
 
I also think it would be interesting to reference more of Mario's accomplishments in stories since he is canonically famous have someone acknowledge him for literally anything besides saving princess Peach. Mario can be Mario I just want the world around him to react to that
 
Hope Nintendo figures out what to do with the RPG series sooner than later, Odyssey aside Mario's felt kinda sterilized these years, and I think that's the reason
