Jonathan can easily Incap by hamoning him to the ground.
Lest, he can probably figure it out as Steve comes back (Come to think of it, without any armor or gear of any kind since it would drop on death) for the 10th time.
But yet it happens. And, the mechanics of the game, that you don't keep your stuff, it's not exactly constradicted by anything else, mostly because such a thing is so self evident they wouldn't be brought up. The mechanics make the world of the game here, they don't merely build a functioning game to play in a way that is then contradicted by cutscenes.
Thing is, but yet it happens isn't a really a good argument.
The mechanics of the game say that the Terrarian respawns every time he dies and there aren't any cutscenes to contradict it, so lets say he can respawn every time he dies because it happens.
Point is, just because it happens in an otherwise loreless game doesn't make it inherently true. Or else Creative Mode's Profile would be a thing by now.
A mechanic of the respawn is that you lose all your stuff, meanwhile, Respawning in Terraria is a mechanic. Although yes, the way I phrased that was indeed wrong.
