Shulk vs Soma Cruz

The problem is that the perception null is useless here as Soma lacks the sense that would be affected to begin with in this case.

Mind manipulation is not a sense, what's going on is the telethia's ability to read minds is being powernulled and Alvis dulls the perception of the telethia along with doing that.

Yes, but the "perception" here is mind reading, which Soma lacks to begin with, once again.

It also affects the "other" ones or something?

Well, Soma can still summon spam, which would allow Soma to recover while it lasts (As Shulk can´t spam it as far I remember), and him still having the AP advantage still helps here.

About as high as himself, and Soma can probably ignore durability with Killer Mantle after Shulk uses too much ether.

Killer Mantle basically swaps the health of the opponent it hits with its magic

If the opponent has no magic whatsoever, it just dies, but thanks to verse equalization, the ether Shulk uses should be possible to equalize to magic, which would make it a good move.

It has poor range, however.

Let´s just say that Shulk´s sword has more range than that move, so easily not a big deal.

Anyways, Soma has the range advantage overall with his other moves.

Alrighty time to clear some things up here.

  • Shulk can spam Monado Arts. He can't in game because that would be broken but in cutscene we see Dunban, Shulk, Alvis and Zanza all use Monado Arts willy nilly. What helps this more is right after Alvis used Purge he hands the Monado back to Shulk expecting him to do it as well.
  • Shulk's range with the Monado 3 is Universal+ as the Monado is whatever Shulk wants it to be and he can easily change it to benefit from the situation which can allow Shulk to outrange Soma standard range (excluding his hax)
  • Shulk has been shown to be able to use Ether without any sign of it being limited so I can imagine a fun scenario where Soma uses the Killer Mantle on Shulk and now Shulk has unlimited health.

1: Mmm... then this can go either way

2: Oh, then they can´t outrange each other whatsoever.

3: Well, that may be because there´s ether everywhere in Xenoblade, so it would still be dubious, but in worst case scenario, Shulk would just heal overall, rather than get infinite health.
