Well, sometimes he´s portrayed without an skeleton, so possible immunity to bone manipulation could happen.

Theres this....but theres also that one episode where Squidward, Patrick, and Spongebob were shown to be alive thousands of years ago(It's even shown that Squidward created jelly fishing)...I have no idea how we handle something as episodic as spongebob here....
