I should probably research this myself but how does Methusala 'briefly' survive a hit from LLT?

was it just that he wasn't instantly destroyed due to his resistances?

Did the spear end up killing him anyway?

The LLT destroyed the darkness part of himself making him go back to a mere "normal" part of the world's structure (darkness a facet of nature, not darkness the conscious God that is also a part of nature).

'Loui' "was a persistent little prick" and wouldn't allow himself to die before Claudia was out of danger so he survived by mere "persistence". Although he claimed that he would disappear shortly after because he was merely in human form and there was no longer the "God of darkness" part to sustain himself and he was already starting to disappear.

This, at least, is what I understood of it. Don't take my word for it until someone confirms.

It was stated by Wilhelm that Meth survived as long as he did do to his sheer willpower and tenacity - Wilhelm even said that it was nothing short of a miracle.

I just think it was a plot contrivance to allow Meth to have a conclusion with his relationships with Wilhelm and Claudia.
