Question About Sonic's Possession Resistance

I can see where the Mind Manipulation resistance comes from, but why does Sonic have resistance to Possession? Random NPCs are influenced in the game and they are stated to be possessed, but when did Dark Gaia ever try to outright influence Sonic? There are other NPCs who aren't affected by this meaning the Possession could just be select.

I thought what Dark Gaia did to them was Empathic Manipulation and not Possession.

I know that. And I'm saying that's wrong and should be changed. Considering that there are some regular humans that it doesn't work on, I agree with the post in the OP, he just shouldn't have whatever it is at all.

The citizens didn't have Dark Gaia energy directly infused into them like Dark Gaia Phoenix & Werehog though,it's some sort of corruption that could be classified as possession since it's Dark Gaia itself entering their bodies.
