One Piece General Discussion: Elbaph

On one hand, I can't recall any sign of Blackbeard caring about family.... Although he does seem to have a seemingly coincidental trend of troubling Luffy's family.

On the other hand, he was on Whitebeard's crew for 26 years, no? Did he show any loyalty to Whitebeard there? Everyone on that crew called Whitebeard "pops" & Whitebeard considered his crew his "sons".

Perhaps Blackbeard was passive & inactive in his time aboard Whitebeard's ship because he joined it with an ulterior motive & kept that in his heart.... But didn't he beg on hands & knees to join? & there are scenes of him sitting miserably alone, & folks noting he didn't seem to sleep.

If his motive to join was because of his father, then could his misery & his sleeplessness, have been connected to that? But then, why?

What weighed so heavily on Blackbeard's mind?

He tried to use Whitebeard seeing him as his son as a weapon against him to save himself, and WB pieced him up.

Yeah, but that was at Marineford, no? Long after Blackbeard had (presumably) gotten onto Whitebeard's crew for: The Dark Dark Fruit.
It was AFTER his 26 years on the crew.
At that point, at Marineford, he had no reason (by Blackbeard's own standards.) to show loyalty to Whitebeard anymore... but what about before he achieved the goal he joined for?

Surely he managed to stay a member, whether by not causing trouble, or showing some loyalty, false or otherwise, no? Could he have cared, then?

I actually do like him as a character, and he is a lot of fun (GALAAAXXXXYYY IMMMPAAAAACT!!!). But I also acknowledge he is also arguably not a good person based on his inaction, despite being the “Hero of the Marines”.

However, I also don’t think he is an evil character on the same level of the Celestial Dragons, nor that he actively likes the corruption in the World Government. (Warning: Headcanon incoming) He tolerates it as an almost necessary evil, one that, while bad, is preferable to a lawless world run by pirates because the vast majority of pirates are evil and depraved, and does less harm than that theoretical future. It’s easy to forget because we just so happen to follow a few of the good ones, but most pirates are more like Kidd; you know, the guy who crucifies people just for being places he lands. That, and so he could do good more easily under their banner, rather than try to fight back and simply be killed for nothing (assuming someone like Imu is as powerful as the narrative hypes him up to be).

Now, do I agree with this logic? Ehhhhh, not really, no, especially with people like Dragon existing who just say **** you to the government and do things anyway. But I can at least see the logic that a good wanting, pirate hating man like Garp could come too.

Luffy would die from a hole in his stomach but Zoro got stabbed in his side at the start of the series and just slept it off

Since the navy was said to have gotten stronger since Sakazuki became the FA would this mean Issho and Aramaki are above the previous trio of Admirals

Maybe it's just Sakazuki being a better leader strategically/tactically?
Resource management, logistics, morale....
Lots of factors go into something like that, no?

Well the alternative is the assumption that a fleet's performance is notably influenced by its leader/admiral, hence, a Fleet lead by Sakazuki, for example, is stronger than a fleet lead by the previous admirals, because Sakazuki, individually, is stronger.
& in theory, a stronger character can do things weaker ones can't, especailly in a world like One Piece where blowing up ships singlehandedly is possible.

Though, usually a "one man army" isn't so literal & basically overshadowing an actual army they have, right?

Or the leader is just a person who managed to whip everyone up into shape.
It says that Navy HQ got stronger, not the entire army, just the headquarters. They moved into the new world. They promoted more members that are stationed there. They have new tech. It's a more fortified place than before.
It's not saying the freaking admirals can punch harder.

Yeah that sounds reasonable. As my earlier posts on this matter indicate, I was skeptical that the reason the Navy would be stronger with Sakazuki as Fleet Admiral was because of Sakazuki's strength.

Akainu was an Admiral and a Fleet Admiral in the same hour. Him becoming Fleet Admiral ain't make the whole organization more powerful.

in the 2 year timeframe tho when Akainu has been a Fleet Admiral, it would be logical that the organization as a whole are now stronger than they was before

If not... Elders would've insta been pressing on akainu if he's been making everyone remain completely the same for 2 whole years

That doesn't make any sense. How would Akainu "make everyone be the same"? Sengoku was the Fleet Admirals for years; was the organization much weaker two years before Luffy set off on his journey? Or four years before he set off on his journey?
