On a Planet Busting calculation

Here is a calculation for Toei Vegeta's feat of busting Arlia that is currently accepted for the profile:
However, why does it use the Planet's mass? I understand the calcs of Frieza blowing up Planet Vegeta using that Planets mass since we see the debris of it traveling at such distances, but here that doesn't happen
 
Because the planet had life on it, which defaults to an Earth-like assumption.

If you mean distance than I don't know.
I get distance since that needed to be calc, but why use the mass of a planet for the explosion?
