The sheer pressure of a combatant can instill fear through bloodlust alone(the fear wouldn't work on Naruto characters, who have fear resistance through power), cause people to pass out, cause actual physical pain, deal literal damage to your soul if you're not strong enough, passively chip away at the souls of others even if you're not trying to fight, and literally erase people that get too close.

Obito does resist erasure from the truth seeking balls though he has higher range
