It's tertiary canon
It can be used when there's existing showings in the primary canon
For example, if we see a blizzard in the manga and the novel tells us that the blizzard is AZ temperatures, it can be used
But there's no such thing like that in the manga (or anime)
It may be minor but it's a whole new ability from thin air
I got novel canon>anime canon but that's a convo for another day

I assumed the four Hokage weren't affected because their bodies consisted of White Zetsu, similar to how Yamato fell under the genjutsu once he came out of White Zets
This is probable, yeah
Except for the small matter of Orochimaru having a white zetsu body and still getting affected

how do you even reconcile the novel being canon over the anime. Like I can understand if people are against the anime being canon... but the novel? ..Which adapts the movie, that is explicitly retconned within the manga continuity?? Not only that but showcasing feats and abilities and fights that just NEVER happened in ANY of the adaptations?

Well I start of with believing the anime isn't canon cuz of the multiple discrepancies and because I don't trust studio pierrot at all.

I follow with acknowledging the novels are canon to the manga cus if this

Therefore Manga>=ln>anime

I get Nierre's point and don't really mind decanonizing the novel currently. But like....the anime has jougan. It has so far, never appeared in anything other than just the anime. So it isn't exactly cut and dry imo. But it is kinda obvious that the author is probably willing to bring things from the anime to the manga more so than from the movie novel that has no relevance at this point in the story. So the anime does feel more canon than the novel.

dw i dont really care about whether the anime is canon or not my confusion is moreso the novel + yeah sp sucks

So how exactly do you reconcile the movie/novel being different from the manga arc. Like what exactly do you take from the movie/ln and what do you disregard

I know you didn't ask me, but I wanna say that we should keep things from the novels that have also appeared in the other iterations to gain more context about them. But things that are only in the movie or novel is kinda hard, because they might not be contradictory themselves, but they don't appear anywhere else. So it becomes hard to argue that the author did have those things in his vision when they never appear again.

Is fused Momoshiki's design shown anywhere in the novel? I think the novel of the movie is canon to the manga, not the movie itself.

Also I think there's an argument to be made that things can occur off panel, but its a pretty weak argument lol.

I think that could be valid, depends on what it is ofc

The novel describes the fused transformation being monstrous/grotesque iirc, so it's definitely the movie version that the novel adapts.

The screenshot you posted lists the movie as part of the timeline

I'm pretty sure it's the LN of the movie not the movie itself

The text in yellow (in the original screenshot you posted), says "Boruto Naruto The Movie (A formidable enemy attacks the Chunin Exams)" translated via google.

There's no reference to the novel at all. That photo is the poster for the movie, it's not indicative of the novel.

Eh they don't show the movie poster, so I think it's saying the overall movie arc takes place at the point in time, but it's the novel that's "canon" to the manga

wdym they don't show the movie poster? that IS the movie poster. the picture on the left with team 7, team 10, Naruto and Sasuke is quite literally the poster for the movie. I'm confused on what the confusion on ur end is about.
It mentions red skin as well doesn't it? Yep that design is a cancer.
yeah I don't have it on me but it's quite literally... a novelization... of the movie.
Ah well that's gonna be hard to argue if true
did you read the novel?

It literally says Jump J books on the bottom

Though now that I'm taking a closer look, that the site that you're using as a timeline is explicitly a bookstore (j-books.shueisha). AFAIK the site isn't stated to have any authority on the canonicity of the franchise, instead it's just advertising the books that it sells within its store and the order in which you should be reading them. Which is why it doesn't show "The Last" movie or "Boruto: Naruto The Movie".
Ur probably aware of that already. but using that site as evidence of canonicity is very faulty.

J-books is a publishing label by Shueisha, which I'm like 99% sure does have authority...

Unless ya wanna argue wether Shueisha, the publishers themselves, don't know the publishing order of what they themselves publish...

I don't have issue with Shueisha having authority, of course they have authority.

The issue is that your source of authority is essentially a library that lists the books within its catalogue for onlookers to read.

Once again, the Boruto Novel describes Momoshiki's physical appearance, similarly to the one we see in the movie, and yet the same timeline directs the reader to read the manga, which not only retells the story, but severely retcons it (Karma, Momoshiki's appearance, Sasuke and Naruto's fight against the Otsutsuki in the dimension, abilities used etc etc).

Not to mention that The Last Novel, which I have no issues with being canon adjacent, is seemingly, according to you, more canon than the actual movie? Because it's on a bookstore? If you peruse the website for like 5 seconds, it should be clear that it's just a bookstore that advertises the books within its catalogue. You can see novels from Bleach, One Piece, Naruto and more importantly, original stories that are published within Shueisha. "J-books" isn't an authoritative figure on what's canon, it's just a book store that is advertising the novels they have for the franchise so that the reader can buy them. It's not saying "this is the definitive timeline of the Naruto story"
