No seperating each individual pieces KE would reduce the result as they all have their own individual velocities but in your calc you just used the KE for the entirety oh the mass as a whole instead of the individual KE of each piece then adding them. I'll give ya an exampleAdding them up would reduce the result?
100kg of stone gets shot out at different velocities while being in 3 seperate pieces.
This is what you did:
0.5 * 100kg * 100m/s^2 = 500000 Joules
This is how ya should be doing it:
0.5 * 25kg * 10m/s^2 = 1250 Joules
0.5 * 45kg * 51m/s^2 = 58522.5 Joules
0.5 * 30kg *36/s^2 = 19440 Joules
Total energy: 79212.5 Joules
Because each piece has its own seperate weight and distance it travels in that timeframe you can't do the KE as a single whole which means the results will tank
