Is this durability negation or something else?

If character A has 10,000 hp
And character B can do 2,000 damage per hit

But due character A's defense it only dose 50.

Then character B uses a ability to reduce character A's defense by 100%

Character B is now able to do 2,000 damage but it still takes 5 hits for Character B to kill character A

So is Hp durability or is defense durability?

BTW this is from a book I've read about a game the Characters play.
I'm NOT trying to scale video game Characters from game play

This is statistic reduction, B's spell is lowering A's ability to withstand stuff, not straight up ignoring it regardless of how high it is normally.

As for whether HP or Defense is durability? Cases-by-case basis I suppose, personally in this occasion I'd say HP is more like Stamina while Defense is direct durability.

In games, HP is an abstraction, sometime it means physical punishment, other times is more broad like indicating stamina, luck, willpower and even skill; in either case, it doesn't not tend to represent Durability. Damage tend to be more straight forward, but its meaning may also be broad. So without looking at what exactly HP represent there's no way to tell accurately.
