Hyperdimension Neptunia General Discussion #33 - Unlimited ∞

Honestly, haven't really been keeping up with the site recently, so who knows if there's any good Low 2-C or 2-C matchups for these girls
Main issue with HDN is that you run into a Digimon D&D-esq problem where you have such a large variety of hax and resistances you either get one shot by someone vastly stronger or eventually grind down an opponent with a power they don't resist.

In a sense, yeah, although HDN's hax is a tad lacking outside of the big antagonists (Kurome, SVS Arfoire). Not that they don't have any to speak of, but compared to several other verses that occupy the same tiers, they're sorely falling behind lol
Is there any interest for Fairy Fencer F here?
Unfortunately, probably not; I doubt most people who support Nep and/or have an active interest in it feel the same way about Fairy Fencer.

wait a minute VERT IS GETTING SISTERS
... wait that's not our Vert
Wait WE'RE GETTING A NEW DIMENSION AND IT LOOKS LIKE 4 NEW CHARACTERS MAYBE(?) LET'S GO

Funny enough I just bought the rebirth trilogy for my Playstation

That's the thing, it ISN'T a new dimension.
and vert isnt getting sisters but that's not a bad thing tbh
Compile Heart themselves have said that this is a new MAINLINE game, not a spin-off or a remake, but a true continuation of VII. Meaning these are, in fact, the same characters we know and love with a shiny new coat of paint.

Ohhh, so we're sticking to the same Dimension, just at a later time presumably, that's awesome
The whole "to the Next Dimension" bit feels kinda misleading now...
I feel halfway bad for her, but... Only halfway.

I have to wonder what relation these 4 will have to the CPU's though, they make me think of the current gen consoles

I think it's just supposed to be an eye-grabbing tagline, really. The only thing I can think of that would make the tagline work is if they traveled to another dimension, perhaps one in the future.
I have to wonder what relation these 4 will have to the CPU's though, they make me think of the current gen consoles
Because they are. They're the PS5, Switch, and XBOX Series S and X respectively. Whatever their relation will actually be, who knows, but I doubt they'll be fully related.

Alright, I just watched the trailer, and HOLY PEAK WE ARE SO BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some notes:

  • The new Goddesses are named:
    • Rouge (Red Heart)
    • Ciel (Blue Heart)
    • And Anna and Lotte (Eclipse Heart)
      • Anna and Lotte seem to me that they fuse together whenever they activate the Goddess Form, as well as them taking up a single slot in battle.
  • THEY ARE FIGHTING ROBOT SHARKS AND METEORS IN SPACE WHAT
    • They also seemed to stun the Shark with chains a la Breath of the Wild's Stasis? Who know what that could mean
  • All of the veteran Goddesses have new Processor Units that appear to be a mix between the Goddess Form and Next Forms, and their weapons reflect that a bit as well. What does this mean for the Next Forms? Maybe they were integrated into the Goddess Form and we'll get some sort of explanation for it in-game.
  • ROUGE IS SO CUTE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Some more info I gathered after looking at the website's character and story information:

  • The new Goddesses seem to be the new rulers of each nation. Especially Rouge, I think it's basically all but confirmed she is, in fact, the Goddess of Sweenia, which replaces Lowee as the Nintendo nation.
  • Every previous Goddess, except for Neptune, seems to have retired and is now pursuing their own interests.
    • Noire has become a vigilante of sorts in Lastation, hiding her identity and being a shadowy hero, sort of like Batman.
    • Blanc has become a popular writer, with her novels receiving manga and anime adaptations, leading to her losing sleep over the whole ordeal.
    • And Vert. . .well, who knows what Vert is up to, but it seems to detail that Anna and Lotte don't recognize Vert as an older sister, just their superior.
    • Whatever this might mean for the Candidates, we'll have to see, but for now, the new Goddesses are the ones running the nations.
  • The story details that a calamity has befallen Gamindustri, due to a meteor of some sort. Neptune seems to be the only survivor, and her "retry" is activated, which repeats the "beginnings" and "ends". From what it seems, Neptune might be time-looping to prevent the destruction of Gamindustri? That would explain the appearance of a meteor (that they are actively destroying) in the trailer.

So the new Human Form designs for the Candidates were leaked in ebten's merchandise post. . .

. . .and their Goddess Form silhouettes have been put out in various merchandise samples from the official website.

I gonna miss Nepgear Sailor Fuku.
Admittedly, I'm going to miss the original outfits too (hopefully they're unlockable legacy outfits in the game), but the new ones are already really starting to grow on me: they're all fantastic. Neptune's is my favorite, of course, but everyone's is amazing either way.

Weekly Famitsu gave us a look at the new Candidate designs.

BUT ALSO IF AND COMPA? I was not expecting that.

Nepgear outfit still looks like a Sailor Fuku, so I very happy.

I definitely prefer this design for Rom and Ram. The coats are fine, but they look so good as train conductors.

Uni outfit is fine. Between this one and her early design, I don't really a prefered option.

Histy looks the same, but that check outs. I don't think she would ever get a re-design, unless is another dimension.

Since they got re-design, I Hope they actually do something this time around with Compa and IF. I kinda doubt they gonna make them playable tho.

...why Rom and Ram HDD forms look likes nurses?

It's a bit unclear at the moment; apparently, there's 11 playable character slots, and since Anna and Lott share a slot, that leaves 4 for the main four, 4 for the Candidates, and 2 for Rouge and Ciel. However, there's slated to be multiple packs of DLC for this game, so MAYBE they could be DLC characters?
...why Rom and Ram HDD forms look likes nurses?
For Rom, it fits because she's an actual healer in-universe. For Ram, it makes a bit less sense, but she does still have a few healing skills, so I can let it slide tbh

Compile Heart just posted a video on Twitter showcasing the intro to the game.

This seems like a REALLY good flight speed feat; they're traveling from the planet to deeper into space in the span of just a few seconds. That has to at least be Massively Hypersonic, right? I don't really see any other speed tier that would fit this.

Also, this was already detailed in the Glossary page on the official website, but the Goddess Forms should all get Space Survival. We can clearly see them deep in space and handling it just fine, with the Glossary page noting that the Goddess Form is capable of withstanding harsh environments, such as underwater, or in outer space.

Since we've had 14 new clips from Unlimited posted by Compile Heart since April 29th, I'll quickly summarize what each clip is about, since we're inevitably gonna have more to look at. Can't post more than five pieces of media, so I'll just link to some YouTube videos with subtitles instead.

This clip essentially confirms to us that the meteor is, in fact, a sentient being. At the end, Purple Heart seems to remember that this is another cycle of hers, as she says "this time" and questions her use of it.

I think this is pretty much just a clip to serve as a callback to the original game from 2010 and/or Re;Birth 1.

Kinda the same thing, but here, we're introduced to Rouge and what her personality is like (i love her i will die for her).

This clip pretty much confirms that Neptune does, in fact, have amnesia at the moment. She recognizes specific words and phrases, but doesn't entirely remember them.

Nothing much for this one, just more banter between Neptune and Rouge.

We get some footage of the first dungeon of the game, though it's not much before we're thrust into another cutscene anyway.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJMf4P-LusM
Here we get a look at the combat. It's very much like Game Maker R:Evolution's combat. Neptune seems to use the same skillset as before, albeit with some tweaks to fit Unlimited's new features and focus on verticality. On the flipside, Rouge uses what seem to be chakrams of some kind, based on the Ring-Con accessories for the Switch. She also seems to have some knowledge of fighting, since she explicitly directs Neptune to "target the weak-looking ones and whittle down their numbers," according to MTL. Rouge also compliments Neptune's fighting, saying that she's a skilled fighter despite her amnesia. Neptune then says that her body just remembered how to do it.

Also, some cutscenes in the dungeons themselves? That's a neat change of pace.

Another tutorial fight, this time teaching the player about Symbol Attacks (or, as this game calls it, "Initiative Attacks"), and showcases that Unlimited has context-specific attacks, dependent on the direction you hold the control stick. They also teach you how to guard, and in this game, the guard is much clearer; we can see it's a circular barrier with a hexagonal pattern, somewhat similarly to how it's portrayed in SVS and Game Maker. It also shows that it turns red whenever you take a hit and are in block stun.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkRUbyXSQZc&pp=0gcJCQQLAYcqIYzv
This is mainly to show off more of the first dungeon, and I'm really liking the multiple birdseye views we got after entering the new area. Also, they showcase the Safe Area function, and it's described by Rouge as, according to MTL, "the communication infrastructure connecting the city" and that "the internet connection is weak everywhere, so you can only do the bare minimum," alluding to stuff such as quick healing and fast travel. Idk how the hell that even works but that's actually pretty cool

Also, at some point to the event marker, they pick up a orb that gives them 10 of. . .some kind of unit? Not sure what it is, and it isn't explained in any of the later clips, so we'll have to wait for more info.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31bxJTL8-y0
This is a clip we've seen before, but now we have updated voicing and Live2D. Basically just showing us the interior of Planeptune, as well as introducing us to Ciel.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1xJ7Lf4rJQ&pp=0gcJCQQLAYcqIYzv
Just more banter and having Ciel interact with Neptune, nothing of note per se. She does seem to recognize the word Lastation, but nothing more.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yxtsp2baeF0
So, according to Ciel, Planeptune's Guardian Goddess is missing at the moment. This seems to imply one of two things, neither of which we know for sure yet until there's more info:
Possibility #1: Neptune's time-looping replaces her past self. This would provide a partial explanation as to why she is currently missing.
Or Possibility #2: Similarly to Sisters VS Sisters, time-traveling will allow for duplicate entities to exist in the same timeline. However, this wouldn't necessarily explain why Neptune is missing currently.
Also Anna and Lott!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHFWwr_6B1U
Nepgear claims that Neptune woke up suddenly, exclaimed something to the effect of "It's coming from above!", and ran out. This seems to imply that Neptune knows about the meteor ahead of time? It could be setting up for a joke of some kind, but until we know for sure, all we know is that she knew about something ahead of time and went to take action.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nU6JMqdXXjk&pp=0gcJCQQLAYcqIYzv
Basically just a bunch of trying to get Neptune to remember who she is and whatnot, nothing much else.

tbf, i think the absurdity of the clip comes from the fact that Compa is rated as (possibly) 1-C on this site, which most people can't even comprehend lol

i, too, wish we didn't have to deal with the 1-C ratings of this verse, mainly because it's an absolute pain to have to write "possibly 1-C" or "possibly Complex Multiverse level" after every single god damn AP, Durability, and Striking Strength rating (and it looks terrible format-wise lol)

but we have to

If the clip show her at Low 2-C, It probally still absurd, but not as much right? Because "Beggining of the series" being 1-C should be unbelievable for some people.

most peoples' perception on neptunia powerscaling tends to focus more on the fact that the series is a parody, often having a lot of joke scenes, and therefore cannot scale high because clearly if it's just a joke, then nothing in it is serious, right?

Alright, after taking several days to recover from my lithotripsy, I'm finally back, and we've got some things to discuss. Both the OP for the game got revealed, and the website got updated to include new characters as well as a new tab for the System page.

The main thing of interest here is the new characters revealed, specifically the antagonists.
  • Arfoire makes a return, sporting a human-dragon hybrid look. According to the website, she is aligned with this new "Sashu Cult", serving as their "Apostle of the End", and has no memory of who she is. I'm not sure how they're going to explain her existence in this game, considering all of the other canon Arfoires as we know them are M.I.A., but it'll be interesting to see what happens.
  • Warechu also makes a return, but it seems like he'll just serve the same role as he did in VII as a minor antagonist.
  • Moving on to the first of the new characters, we have a Warechu clone named "Tenbaichu". According to translations from the website,
"These rats have turned to reselling just to survive. They’ve become the target of criticism because they swarm storefronts in groups and use every trick in the book to snap up all the merchandise. For some reason, they all affectionately call Sedori "Boss" and play along with her pirate games."
    • The fact that Tenbaichu is referred to as "they", alongside the several that appear in the OP, suggests to me that there will be multiple that we encounter across the game for whatever variety of reasons they give us.
  • The next new character is "Mana Baddo". She's part of a rogue gang called "Poison Spider", seems to have a local nickname, "Mana of the Bloody Yo-Yo", and is currently in a conflict with Ciel. Not much else is really known at this point.
  • Next is "Sedori", who sports a shark aesthetic, which at first made me think she was connected to the shark boss that the Goddesses fight in space at some point - we've seen it in Famitsu scans as well as the first few gameplay teasers for Unlimited. She and Tenbaichu are seemingly amicable with each other, and are probably in some sort of alliance together, seeing as they're both pirate-like entities.
  • Second to last is "Aori Kyoho", who, just like Arfoire, is aligned with the Sashu Cult, and is one of their Apostles of the End. She's completely robotic, and according to the website's bio, she's essentially a ragebaiter and serves to spread misinformation and rumors, not unlike how Affimojas did in VII. Interestingly, her character portrait shows her wielding a gun, and on it, chibi pictures of the main four Goddesses can be seen. Noire and Blanc on what I'm guessing is either its magazine or its stock, and Neptune and Vert above the handle.
  • Lastly is Sashu, whose voice actor is interestingly hidden. I don't think Compile Heart usually does this, so it's leading me to believe that this character is related to the main characters in some way. Beyond that, though, they're an entity that's worshipped by the Sashu Cult, which could hint at them being a deity of some sort. The naming is also very interesting; in a similar vein to Maho's name deriving from "sumaho", the Japanese word for smartphone, Sashu derives from "sābisu shūryō", - specifically, its abbreviation, "Sa tsui" - which is the Japanese term for "End of Service". Seems like this character will most likely be named "Eos" in English.
Overall, very interesting stuff.

The Character Customization tab was added to the System page, detailing how. . .well, character customization in this game works.
  • Customizable Processor Units finally make a return after being absent from both Sisters VS Sisters and Game Maker R:Evolution, and it also comes with a new feature to change the weapon you use in the Goddess Form! Additionally, it's also possible for you to upgrade your Processor Units as the story progresses. You can see in the images on the site that it not only increases stats, but it also changes the appearance of the Processor Unit.
    system3_1_a.jpg
  • But best of all, we can change the COLORS of the things too. Oh my god this is so cool I'm gonna cry THANK YOU COMPILE HEART FOR MAKING PEAKKKKKKKKK
    system3_5_a.jpg
    system3_6_b.jpg

I'm sorry but we can CUSTOMIZE THE APPEARANCE'S AND COLOR'S????? I was expecting it to be at best just what VII did but oh my gosh that's so peak. I just hope we either get the NEXT Forms, or more likely, at least get processor's that make the main 4 look like the NEXT Form's, like how SVS had the NEXT weapon's. It's be so cool to customize the NEXT Form's too. Even though that isn't likely to happen, this is still really awesome

I wouldn't discount the possibility that we'll get Processor Units that look like the Next Forms. Looking at the screenshots for the Processor Unit customization, we can see both the sword that Neptune used with her Lost Purple Processor Unit, as well as Lost Purple's wing piece itself, albeit with small color tweaks to match Purple Heart's new Cosmo Purple Processor Unit. Considering the fact that the older Goddess Form's and Next Form's Processor Units have fused together, the possibility of having both of them as separate Processors for you to use to get some extra stats isn't off the table, at least in my opinion.

We'll have to wait and see what exactly they do, but I'm really excited to see what any potential new Processor Units will look like.

Some more new tidbits have surfaced for Unlimited, specifically from this stream here:

Here, we can see one of the new dungeons: a snow forest. This is pretty clearly similar to the tutorial forest dungeon, just with a coat of snow over it, though it does seem to be a bit more densely packed compared to the other dungeon. There's much more mountainous terrain, several more trees, as well as different branching paths for the player to explore.

And then here, we get a Minecraft-themed dungeon. We already saw this in a screenshot from a week ago, where the characters were fighting the True Deity of Sin, but here, we get a much better look at it. It's easy to miss, but there's also cube-shaped Dogoos in the foreground, suggesting a new type of Dogoo. What's not easy to miss, though, are the various UFO-piloted enemies that the showcase flies past. Seems like these will also be Dogoo enemies?

After we're shown the dungeons, we get some brief looks at the other "End of the World" boss fights. We knew that the meteor and the shark would be two of them, but here, we get to see there are fights for the True Deity of Sin, a robotic turtle enemy, and a robotic spider. All of them seem to work the same mechanically, but have different attacks that the player needs to watch out for. We'll know more about this once we actually get our hands on the game itself, but it seems as though these fights are either randomized or they happen sequentially within the story; we can see the HP values of the cast are WAY higher when they fight the spider enemy than the shark enemy from the first trailer (thousands of HP vs hundreds).

Compile Heart posted a new Unlimited snippet, featuring the Planeptune and Lastation sisters.

Here's a machine-translated version.

So Neptune's D-Pad Hairclip accessories actually function like communicators? That's... interesting. I love how she used them to do a harmless prank on Noire, too. Didn't even have to call her a loner or anything. I strive for these sorts of shenanigans.

But STOP YURIBAITING US COMPILE HEART AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH

We've got some new scans for Unlimited from Weekly Famitsu.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it's anything particularly new, and mostly consists of things that we were already aware of. The only new thing of note is the Scout System.
