Frankly it's almost canon now, we actually got that pic of both of them together along with the other ships a few chapters ago. And wouldn't say it doesn't make any sense, it does come out of left field compared to the other ships but it has been hinted at; Mira talking to Laxus about how he had changed and all that good stuff during the Tartaros arc.

Eh when was the last time we actually saw that drunkard. As for Cana not getting any love, her Dads love is all she needs... ok I'm sorry that's cheesy as Gouda and is likely something Gildarts would say. @William not only Erza, we've probs already seen Lucy in her early thirties (Layla) and in her fifties (Anna). And we've seen Wendy as a teenager too (or at least a young adult) and we've probably already seen a look at Natsu in the future (the flashback with his dad).
