So, let me ask a modified question. Since time stop is in character for him, if he goes in to try for physical attacks, what will he do when they do not work?

Like I said, Shadow isn't stupid. He has the skill set to change tactics if something doesn't work. He could go for the spatial attacks like he does in Sonic Battle, use Chaos Blast, and of course the Chaos Rift.
