Dragon Quest Discussion Thread

For Dai I was thinking every time he changes armor could work? I mean, every instance shows a stage of growth for him in which he learns new abilities or develops in some way. Kinda like, Beginning of Series - Post Battle with Crocodine | Hyunkel Arc - Beginning of Baran's arc and so on.

His Dragon Crest could be adressed like: Large Building level (Could destroy a stone dragon who can endure this much damage), Country level with the Dragon Crest (Could injure Hadler). To put an example.

They arguably pass Hadlar early on though as Dai puts up somewhat of a fight with Crocodine without the crest, that is before Hadlar gets stronger later himself.

Dai gets his final armour as he gets a sword though doesn't he? He still gets a good deal stronger after that.

Yeah, it's more like a whole change of Equipment altogether save for Leona's short sword.

Hmm... I guess more divisions are actually needed. Kinda like, before Aban's training, after Aban's training and other instances of noticeable growth.

Before Avan's training only really covers the first 5 chapters in which nothing much really happens feat wise.

Well he did cut open the ocean with the sword with his Dragon Crest... or that was anime only? Frig, I really need to get back to re-read the manga.

I guess our best bet to start with is to make a list of feats we can find, try to get statistics from them and then see what can make a good benchmark.

No it was in the manga where he used an itty bit of his crests power.

Any idea on how powerful you think Baran holding back the black core bomb could be? Or Dai supposedly being able to "shake planets" depending on whatever magnitude you think he'd generate?

Shaking planets is small country at minimum (if humans noticed the shaking on the opposite side of the planet): https://vsbattles.fandom.com/wiki/User_blog:DMUA/Standard_Calculation_for_shaking_the_Earth

If people notice serious shaking on the opposite side of the planet, then it could be country level or higher, and if the shaking causes notable structural damage on the opposite side of the planet you're dealing with multi-continent level or above.

Not quite sure what magnitude could be applied to it, we only knew he could do so afterwards after Pop said that he could after he attained said power.

There was a country busting statement from an arc prior to the statement too. Though said statement also mentions crumbling mountains in the same sentence.

That as well as classification of certain and possible abilities especially with Morag and The Ragin Contagion as Morag’s lore has shown her to be capable of destroying brigadoom however it might Have been yore that destroyed brigadoom since she sealed her self away with the wight night After encountering him she has curse manip,Paralysis inducement, life absorption,Seduction,Ice manip, dagger mastery,Flight,is a demon but I don’t know what tier she would be in as she is superior to the wight night and can fight the early game hero and his party

The Wight night was capable of taking on the king of stornways best men to the point he had to put out a sign asking for help
The wight night is undead has lance mastery, horsemanship,Lightning manip however I’m not sure if in game resistances apply to the wiki like how bosses are uneffected by thwack, kasnoze,or kerfudle

The ragin contagion is both a curse and a disease and just being unsealed caused people to grow sick and die relatively quickly as Cathy was healthy when you first meet her then she gets a cough and by the time you reseal the contagion she was already dead, He also was created to keep King Godfrey sealed away so he could theoretically scale to him but that’s a stretch I’m not sure if the sprite counts but the ragin contagion might actually be a pink gas and three floating eyeballs which might mean it’s partially intangible and can become translucent when it attacks but that’s the sprite, ragin contagion has diseases manip, curse manip, breath attack, sleep inducement, poison inducement, Defense and speed stat Reduction

the protagonist falling from the observatory to the protectorate and suffering hardly any injuries, the Hexagoon merely walking causing the ground to shake which caused Large pieces of rubble to fall From the ceiling of the already decrepit Hexagon

There’s also an enemy encountered not that far in called a moartoad Which is a large toad that fires off explosive stuff like a mortar so there’s that

That first feat is definitely a good mid to high tier 9 feat.

That second feat is possibly a low tier 8 feat, but at the least mid to high tier 9.

I can't see the image, but if it's a decent explosion then that's a 9-B feat, possibly 9-A.

For 9's description of the troll
"These enormous enemies' attacks are enough to level mountains. Beware of the bothersome Bagsy Last.
They've been licking their clubs like loonies ever since some sorcerer said a drop of dribble might improve their accuracy."

I think that's acceptable since the monsters don't drastically change between games, and there was also a thread that accepted the usage of descriptions for monsters between games.

Hmm, might have to play it then to find out how early.

I've been reading some of the descriptions, and man they're cool! Also some of the descriptions have some cool feats.

mortoads have this description in 9
Hopping powder kegs with a whole heap of heavy artillery. Keep a particular eye out for the sickening Snot Shot.

Lateish game there’s cumulus Rex which boast about being able to bloat out the sun with clouds or completely clear the skys on command but that’s in dragon quest monsters

So for DQ 9's Hero/Heroine, you have

Early game= Tier 9 to 8

Mid game= Tier 7

Late game= Tier 6

End game= 4-A

Post game= 4-A to Tier 2.

For early game:
Hexagoon shaking the room of the Hexagon it’s in probably won’t get good results. I’d guess somewhere from street+ to low end 9-B
A terminal velocity fall is 98 kilojoules, so wall level.
If we get a calc, the crack spell will probably get fairly high end wall level in terms of freezing energy. Since it’s not particularly unreasonable to have that spell before Hexagoon, all early game bosses would scale up from that.
