Dimension Question

So I've been told in order to calculate the tier of creating of a dimension you need the size, which can be obtained using the background such as stars. However, what if there is no stars in the background, how do you determine the size and tier?
You don't, unless the size was stated

Alright then. I was hoping to have the object be upgraded through this feat, but it seems that it can't be calc'd. Thanks for the answers.

You can get an estimate by figuring out how far away the furthest thing you can see is, and then do an explosion calc for the space. If you know how large the furthest object is, you can use angsizing to find it’s distance. But the result is unlikely to be very impressive. Otherwise, it’s just unknown.
