DCU General Discussion Thread

GUNN: You’ll see one more character from Superman.
Just one is interesting, because I was definitely thinking that Superman would make an appearance, especially considering how many selfies have been posted of David Corenswet with the Peacemaker cast, but maybe it’ll just be Lex.

Or maybe he’s being very specific with his wording and we’ll see David Corenswet as Overman in the other dimension

James Gunn on Lex Luthor in Man of Tomorrow:

"I think I'm just more interested in getting into the heart of Lex and seeing how he fits into all of this. I think that getting know Lex more as a human being, I think we saw, you know, a lot about the evil part of Lex. Um I don't think, you know, sorry, he's pretty evil. He's a pretty bad guy, but I think that I just want to to get to know, I think he as a character is really interesting. Um, I think that his...there's something, despite of everything, that is incredibly heroic about Lex. Take aside like morality. Um, which is hard to do. But here is this guy who's saying 'you can hold up a building, you can shoot down, you know, planes with your eyes. #### you. I'm gonna kick your ass because I'm better than you'. That is...but you can't... I can't help but admire his tenacity and his sort of ego. I mean his ambition is beyond compare. So is his jealousy. I mean his jealousy is crazy. I mean he does this thing that so many of us do comparing ourselves to other people and judging our own successes by the metrics of others. And that's something to me that's fascinating about Lex. something that I've done a lot in my life. And that's not a great thing about me nor about Lex, but it makes him full. And to me, he's so much more full than most of these villains that we've seen in these movies because he's got his reasons for everything. And you know, he's the underdog. You know, at the end of the day, Lex is the underdog. I mean, yeah, sure, he's got a lot of corporate power and these other things that he can use to manipulate things, but he can't fly in outer space. He can't lift up a building. He can't punch a, you know, something across the, you know, three states. Um, he's a guy, and I ####ing love that"

His statements on the state of casting for DCU Batman:

Do I have ideas about actors to play Batman? Absolutely, I do. I have guys I like. I have guys that are at the top of the list, just like I had people that were at the top of the list for Superman. But let me tell you something, they aren't David Corenswet, right? They didn't get the job. People can guess, and maybe they'll be right about certain things. I don't know. I don't know what you're talking about specifically. [It's] totally up in the air.

We'd have to screen test, we'd have to do the whole thing. It's unlikely that I'm going to hire someone that's [like] Sylvester Stallone as Batman [where] we're just hiring him. It's unlikely that Batman's going to be one of those guys. But it's possible! I know one actor in particular who's a pretty big star that wants to be Batman. We’ve talked about it, but I'm not sure that’s the case.

Gunn also indicated that the season finale of Peacemaker will have the most important connections to Man of Tomorrow, though it won't be required to understand the movie.

Lex is probably going to help stop whatever catastrophe happens in the finale and that gets him out of prison for Man of Tomorrow. That's my bet.
Alright, here is my prediction. The ending will setup the new villain for the movie that Chris and the gang accidentally let loose in the main universe.

The only statement for 2016 suicide squad i know is this, where he calls it a vauge memory along with other sutff.

"Nothing is canon before Creature Commandos, but you can think of those other things as vague memories of things that happened, going back even to the first Suicide Squad.

Thanks. If I recall correctly, there’s two statements from Gunn on Threads where he says the Enchantress reference in Peacemaker S2 doesn’t mean much for the movie being canon, only that Enchantress, her relationship with Flag Jr., and the fact that she still has her powers is canon.

At the moment, I’m thinking that the cross-scaling rules should look like this:
  • Peacemaker S1 can be scaled to as if it’s full canon.
  • Blue Beetle can be scaled to with a likely rating, but I could also see an argument for full scaling like Peacemaker, that’d need to be decided in a CRT.
  • TSS can be scaled to, but it needs to be with a possibly rating.
  • SS16 can’t be scaled to at all without direct references.

There's a few big things in Suicide Squad 2016 that are pretty incompatible with the DCU:
That’s part of the reason why I don’t think it should be used for scaling. The only two characters who I could maybe see SS16 scaling being used for are Flag Jr. and Harley. And it might not even be usable for Harley depending on how the DCU ends up portraying her.

Average movie goer will get a stroke from how messy the DCU canon seems. Also while the Clayface movie is in full on production, I want to ask why and how tf did this even happen.

Not a series, nor a animated show but a whole ass live action movie with theater release for a Batman villain who isn't all that popular even in the rouge gallery, That seems like a pretty big risk.

A cheap horror flick isn't that big a risk and its from a pretty good horror director so why not?

The canon itself is fine most people from a lot of youtube reactions and online shit have no problem following canon either, you're really overblowing this

Imagine all that Earth X theory is just wrong and the main conflict of the show ends up being that since our Chirs killed their Chirs, they want to kill him for that.

The average movie goer doesn’t even know the difference between Marvel and DC, they won’t give a shit about canon.

Mike Flanagan made a script for a Clayface movie, the script was really good, so the movie got greenlit.

James Gunn on who counts as a metahuman in the DCU:

Lex Luthor and Mr. Terrific are so smart that they could possibly be considered metahumans due to a "genetic anomaly", though he doesn't think of Batman as a metahuman (which seems to imply that Batman won't on the same level as Luthor or Terrific intellectually)

Gunn also confirmed that Sasha Bordeaux counts as a metahuman.

The heroes on the mural in the Hall of Justice also represent the history of metahumans, though it's a mystery when the DCU will give further details on them:
