DCU General Discussion Thread

So… in the latest episode of the Peacemaker podcast, Gunn not only says that Green Lantern could fight Superman, he doubles down on the idea (48:30 - 48:39). It’s not totally clear if he’s referring to the DCU or the comics, but I feel like the former makes more sense? And if that is the case, that’s a buff to Guy’s scaling, and probably Hal Jordan as well, once we get to Lanterns.

I've been watching Peacemaker Season 1 for the first time to catch up with everything, and I'm honestly very mixed on it. I like the characters, I like the plot, and I like the themes. But it's also the most unabashedly James Gunn production I've ever seen. It's probably an unpopular opinion, but Christ man some of this dialoge is just too much. It feels like the actors are just riffing for 10+ minutes at a time, and when it works it's fun, but sometimes it really doesn't land.

Considering the context is Green Lantern (Guy as its implied) vs Peacemaker its definitely a DCU oriented question, I'd say its enough at least to put a possibly 8-B+ on Guys page

Would Metallo also scale to possibly 8-B+ too because that would make the rest of the Justice Gang scale as well right?

Was just wondering, how is Peacemaker's profile going to work going forward? Is he just going to be labeled as both from the DCEU and the DCU?

DCU Peacemaker needs a separate profile. Same for the other characters from his series (which I think is only Judomaster at this point, but the rest of the 11th Street Kids and White Dragon definitely need pages).

I think the best way to do that would be to go back through Season 1 (and TSS), update the existing Peacemaker profiles and create ones for the other characters to represent their DCEU incarnations, and then duplicate those profiles while adding anything from Season 2 to represent their DCU incarnations.

There's Vigilante, as well. But his page seems a little low effort. I was kinda surprised White Dragon didn't have one already, though. Not that I'm exactly jumping for joy about having to make a page for a white supremacist, but it seems like a lot of scaling ties back to him, and his tech is kind of insane (relative to the rest of the characters in the show, at least).

Watching Peacemaker Season 2. Kinda crazy that a geriatric Nazi suburbanite seemingly created more stable pocket universe tech than Lex Luthor of all people.

Somehow was more level headed and less filled with hate, thus was less reckless with his invention....And that character was neo-nazi. Which just goes to show you just how ******* insane of hater Lex Luthor was

Well Peacemakers dad had far longer time to work the kinks out while Lex just went with what worked instead of refining the portals because it would be a insult to presume he didn't get it right in the first try.

And unlike Luthor who created a brand new universe, this seems more or so using the existing stable inter universe space that even other species use.

Being more hateful than a neo-nazi is wild.

I wasn't saying it as a critique of the verse, just to be clear. But you're absolutely right that telling him that it might be flawed would just piss Lex off.

Besides for all we know, given that using it in this way is meant to be bad thing and part of Peacemaker's arc in the Season, White Dragon's tech could absolutely be revealed to have it's own fatal flaw.

Yeah Lex is a horrible boss. Not just because he is evil but because even if you spot a mistake in his design, you better keep quite and glaze it if you want that paycheck.

Yep, you try to tell him how dangerous his pocket universe tech is and you'll be sure to get a first hand look at it.

So large planet level superman then ?
Nope we don't know what of blue beetle will be salvaged and Gunn said he doesn't want a planet busting Superman so like we have to wait for the BB animated series on the DCU to come out to see what they reference to to know that its canon

That locks out so many of Superman's great battles and feats. That's like making Hercules unable to lift the heavens. And since Superman is going to be stuck at this scale everyone else is also stuck. Can't wait for building level Antimonitor and Darksied.

Funny how this is the same guy who just gave Rocket a moon destroying gun.

Eh I mean we've already got 8-B+, Class G, and MHS+ in movie 1 of the DCU that's not a bad start and you don't NEED a tier 5 Superman to tell great Superman stories, most Superman never even touch tier 5 and usually cap at either tier 7 or tier 6 which like imma be real I'm pretty sure we're easily hitting at least tier 7 in either Lanterns or Supergirl but that aside even who knows maybe down the line he will be more open to more cosmic feats.

Tbf there's a non-zero chance future feats will end up contradicting WoG. Happens all the time

I assume that if Superman does get tier 5 scaling in the future, it'd probably be through something temporary like sundipping.

I am talking about the future. What makes DC DC, is the cosmology. It's not like he can skip entities like Parallax, Anti Monitor or Darkseid. I am certain we will get a lot of stuff for new gods.

Plus James Gunn isn't the only one writing. Also a part of what makes a comic a comic is it's spectacle. Let's be honest no one here picked up old DC cartoons or Ben 10 or Transformers or DBZ because of deep stories. We picked it because was cool as hell.
