They have to be transcendent of reality and the objects they embody. Just being outside space-time isn't enough.

Depends on its relationship with reality and the object the concept represents. Existing before and after existence is major support though, anything else?

nothing else, only that the concept represents the darkness (death) that came before the light (life) and will continue to exist after the total destruction of the light
