Can someone explain why ftl characters can ""ignore"" accelarator shield?

"Accelerator's passive application of his esper ability. He automatically inverts the direction of any incoming harmful vectors, even if he is unaware of their presence"

According to the wiki, this is ability is passive and it redirects anything harmful to accel, I just started watching the anime so I'm probably missing something here, but why would the fact that an attack is tangible make any difference?

IIRC, that's because the fastest tangible Redirection feat for him is reflecting light.

The reflection is dependant on his calculations (subconsciously, hence why "passive"). So in a way, you can blitz him if you can move faster than his constant subconscious formulas/calcs for the threat at hand.

If you can move faster then his brain can process information then you can bypass the Shield iirc.

if this is true, then how does he reflect things that he is not aware of?

Basically he has pre-set up calculations that are constant. In this way, he can switch his reflection to automatic or not, and only specifically reflect what he wants to or not.

He has a limit to how fast he can compute.
Aleister's microwave broke through Reflection by exploiting that fact (although, not by being really, really fast).

Has it ever been bypassed through by pure speed alone though? Doesn't the fact that whatever opponent he is facing is interacting with an AIM field require them to apply that speed in a way that such speed would be significant to his calculation speed, rather than just forcing their way through it with pure speed alone? At the end of the day, both fast and slow objects (without taking into account Infinite, Immeasurable & Irrelevant) are physical objects, which the shield is set to redirect.

What's more, his ability to passively redirect things is basically his version of an AIM field (which manifests in different ways in different espers), which is a field that espers subconsciously emit, and not as a result of their calculative capabilities. There's also the fact that his field is a whitelist of things that are allowed to pass through them, rather than a blacklist, and what he has to calculate are the things that he actually wants to pass through, like light. I'm pretty sure that's where this whole thing about his limit being light speed comes from.

Other than that, the only other place where his calculation speed comes into consideration is when he's actively trying to change the vector of something.

As Mina said in Vol. 19:

“Even the #1’s reflection is reliant on the calculations you use to control that power. Simply put, you cannot control any vectors with which your conscious and unconscious calculations cannot keep up. Of course, with the brain of Academy City’s #1 and the Misaka Network at your disposal, that would not normally present any kind of problem."

Normally, if his conscious can keep up it's gg, if it can't then there is his unconscious, which is accepted here a 2x FTL or something like that, go faster than that and Accel is ******, simply put.
