Yeah, so I want to add a Web Novel, but the standards are kinda all over the place rn. It's called Epic of Caterpillar. Knowledgeable mods would be appreciated.

Notability stuff:
  • 11.5 million views on Web Novel.
  • 1,035 reviews on Web Novel.
  • 146.4k people have added it to their personal library on Web Novel.
  • Lots of gifts from fans on Web Novel and has been high on rankings multiple times, like top 10.
  • I think its won some awards on Web Novel.
  • On this pirated website, which was closed, it had views in the millions, too.
  • 11.5 million views on Chereads.
  • It has 3821 ratings on Novel Bin.
  • It's also on Amazon and Goodreads, even if it's only the first volume.
  • Some people have talked about it on Reddit and Good Novel.
  • It's got an audiobook on YouTube.
  • The illustrator of So I'm a Spider, So What has made an illustration of the MC.
  • The author has a bunch of other novels with a bunch of views too.

I am not very convinced by this inclusion for the simple reason that it comes from WebNovel, a place that is infamous for novels like Hybrid Mage and other assorted slop that become “famous” on the site simply because they are focused on battleboarding, eh.

Honestly, this is the equivalent of adding a moderately popular Wattpad story.

I'm not necessarily against this, but eh.. idk

Verses like shadow slave exist on here so being sourced from webnovel shouldn’t be anything special

Well yeah I guess. That's a problem with the standards of the wiki tbh. Getting the minimum requirements in that website isn't hard at all.

I recall reading the story a while ago, and the verse is terrible and way too fast paced, but the verse is a power scaler's wet dream, with all of their overpowered powers available.

Well, if you find anything like that in this story, we can discuss it.

Being fast-paced shouldn't affect anything; a lot of stories are fast-paced. Similarly, a lot of verses have overpowered powers, but that doesn't make them made for powerscaling. Hell, it takes the main character like 2000 chapters just to reach planetary.

I'm gonna be honest, but this is just ignorant. It's also not "easy" to get what EoC gets in terms of numbers and it places it among basically the very top of WebNovel (literally beyond exceptional for a WN). Also an easy access self-publishing platform will obviously get those types of people but to discredit something on its origin is a huge genetic fallacy.

Okay? I've literally never said it was. I said that it is easy to reach the minimum due to how the website works.

I’m just applying common skepticism. We cannot prove the intention behind what an author writes, I’m just saying it’s incredibly common to find that kind of content on WebNovel, and that because of the theme it tends to perform well on the platform.

Anyway, I already said I’m not necessarily against it. Let everyone else decide.

...okay?

With the recent conversation.

I still think it should be allowed.

As long as the writers are confirmed to not take inspiration from our system or gets idea from it and also a frequent member

But being in the top of the web novel is no easy feat specially if it's just power scaling slop like you claimed.

The author has six more books that share the universe of Epic of Caterpillar. The characters from those books, after their story has ended, end up in the main storyline of Epic of Caterpillar. Would I be able to index those novels too? They have important information.

Sharing same verse is grounds to ignore notability (or else you end up with something inherently incomplete) if one of them fulfills notability standards. Like how you only need 1 youtube video in a video series to meet the standards and not all of them.

yes.

Our stated rules are as follows

Determination of Notability

The notability of a work is a crucial factor in determining its eligibility for inclusion within the VS Battles Wiki. Notability can be determined by various means such as the popularity of the work among readers, the number of adaptations or spin-offs it has spawned, the impact it has had on the broader cultural landscape.

In determining the notability of a verse or personal work, the adherence of the work to the VS Battles tiering philosophies shall be taken into consideration.
  • It is impractical to set hard defined viewer number limits, however, in general, preference shall be given to officially published works or at least very popular privately published standalone original works that are not fanfiction.
  • The story from which the character originates must be reasonably notable or popular outside of the versus debating communities. This can be determined by various means such as the popularity of the story among readers, the number of adaptations or spin-offs it has spawned, and the impact it has had on the broader cultural landscape.
  • In cases where there is ambiguity or conflicting information regarding the proximity of when the work was written and when the author claims to have interacted with powerscaling purely for battleboard purposes, such works shall not be considered for inclusion within the wiki.
The inclusion of a work shall be based on the judgement of the relevant authorities and stakeholders, and adherence to this regulation is mandatory for all contributors to the wiki, any violation may lead to appropriate actions. Notability is not limited to a specific location or region, it is determined by the fanbase and impact of the work on the broader cultural landscape. For example, a series like The Interface Series, that has a vice article about it, has a significant fanbase and discussion about it across various platforms, may be considered for inclusion, whereas a lesser-known work would not.
The only real disqualification for Webnovels is the last bullet point. If it's like Suggsverse or that one Dragon WebNovel where its just power scaling for the sake of powerscaling/uses power scaling terminology, then it's banned.

Typically, though that is rare. I've seen more verses get kicked for rampant plagiarism than I have for battleboarding rules (despite some of my grievances with Xianxia novels).
