Can force and work be used in calculations in place of kinetic energy?

We calculating projectiles, kinetic energy is generally used. Can force and work be used in its place, or is that a completely different thing? Like I tried it out and it yielded dramatically different results, but I also am not very knowledgeable on physics so I don't understand the concept of work all too well.

Force and work are particularly useful for determining AP from pressure, provided you have the displacement (In this case, distance moved).

Thank you. So basically kinetic energy should be used for projectiles and throwing, and force and work should be used for pressure?
