can anyone with a sniper kill goku if he is not aware of it and count as a valid argument for a debate?

And if durability is inconsistent most of the times would it affect the character depending on the context? like universal tier characters getting hurt by an old grandma throwing them a rock or stuff like that. are this kind of situations valid for a vsbattle debate?

Im making a novel and in the novel the characters are from planetary to multiversal range but i dont want to get rid of the humor and make them boring.

Ex:

struggling to play baseball and overrunned by kids despite before running at speeds greater than light while fighting

Getting hurt by a homeless guy throwing him an object but easily tanking a big bang blast

Getting a flu

Getting slammed to floor and look hurt (this scenes are used a lot like goku getting slammed to ice and dying on god form) despite floor being million times weaker

Falling from the bed and getting hurt when going by durability shown he should have felt like falling on a pillow

etc

none of this scenarios are really donwplaying the character feats, are they? mainly to give more character to the character, Does that make sense? Do you guys base the characater power by their feats on fights and not by other scenarios? They might be inconsistencies but im confused and not doubt about the characters actual power

should i ignore the vsbattle and focus on the story?

its not fun to make the character follow their stats and rules everytime. Mainly to not make the character boring since nothing can damage him. how can i solve this? does that affect the character tier?

An example would be dragon ball. Goku has multiple forms and lets say he doesnt use ki or naruto doesnt use chakra and they get owned by simple stuff most of the times and not relevant things or where they are actually fighitng like naruto daughter hurting him by punching his nuts despite him being planetary

Honestly authors dont even knows this page exist

Like goku getting hurt by a bullet

how does these debates work? do we always use character on their fighting state or anything counts and if it does is there a limit until its considered an actual "anti-feat"? Im confused

i just want to make a cool story adn not ruin it due to me trying to be consistent with the characters´power

Don't worry about it dude. Writers have power-scaling at the bottom of their priorities most of the time. To them the plot and characterization are the only things that matter in making a story. That's how we end up with Thor getting hurt by a rubber ball for humor's sake or how we see Cthulhu getting run over by a boat and regenerating to showcase the horror and hopelessness of the sailors' attempts to stop it.

So as long as you write a coherent plot with proper characterization of the cast and have good world building, small inconsistencies don't really matter to much. Although when in situations where they need to use their powers and showcase their strength, a bit of consistency is appreciated.

Regarding whether non-combat feats can be used, it all depends on context. If it's established that a character has to put up shields as they fight and have lower durability outside of combat, then it can be used as a weakness for the character. However, things like Superman being hurt with a slap from Lois Lane and tanking 4-B attacks on a daily basis are gonna be treated as PIS.

oh thanks so much, that answer made me feel better. Might as well listen to what other people say but yours is perfect. As long as in their fights they remain consisten everything is fine right?

Of course. I know it's really hard for writers to pay attention to every little detail about a character's powers and more often than not they simply focus on showing which character can do what and who is stronger than who. While attention to detail is encouraged, storytelling should come first.

If you're having trouble with showcasing a character's power and speed, you should have some good concrete feats for them to upscale from. Try to have new ones shown every once in a while to give readers a good idea of the jump in strength between characters. Otherwise we would end up with 50 person scaling chains that don't make any sense.

Good way to debunk the concept tho:

If Frieza Suckerpunching Goku didn't reduce him to paste, then it's PIS that he gets scarred by bullets and pierced by lasers because he's "off guard".

The wiki in general can also serve as pretty good inspiration for what kind of stuff you can pull off to end on a certain level of power.

This is because some feats don't appear as impressive to some people due to their nature but they are immensely more so than others. Some authors would treat splitting a mountain in half with a twig way higher than covering all of the visible sky in a plain with clouds in a couple of seconds.

But still, storytelling is what is actually most important, which with it follows consistency, which is why keeping track of power and abilities is kinda important (even if its just one part). But at the end of the day, if the battles or powers or cool fight scenes are not pivotal or a big part of the story, being more relaxed about relative power consistency is duper okay.
