SPOILERS WILL BE INEVITABLE!

Literally saw the movie 5 minutes ago and it was pretty good, we could discuss anything you want about the movie here.
 
I don't know, on one hand I'm pretty sick of just raw trope deconstruction in films, but on the other hand this was pretty well made and any tropes that would be reconstructed could be hard to fit in a horror movie, so I'm conflicted.
 
Yeah, while I can see where you are coming from, I feel like alot of people are looking at this like an actual superhero film with horror instead of a horror film with superhero homages.
 
I don't think it is that similar to Ultraman's (This is more Michael Myers then anything)


Saw the film with my GF and I liked it (Too many jump scares and some kills look hokey but solid)

Curious to see where they go with possible continuations (Like with him growing older and the "Horror League" hinted at in the ending)

Not sure about some of the ratings tho

Yeah I see the MM connection.

Tbh, there weren't that many compared to the shit that companies put out now a days, and imo many were used well. I do agree they could have cut back. Yeah the kills were great, perhaps hocky, but great.

Actually James Gunn confired a connection to the Rated R superhero film "Super", which I also adore! I mean, Crimson Bolt shows up on one of the pictures for the "Horror League". Also supposably a diner owned by Frank Darbo (Crimson Bolt) is in the film.
 
I watched the film and, to me, it wasn't bad, but as Hellbeast said, some of the kills weren't very good, especially the CGI (the jaw scene in particular).

Onto some of the feats:

  • In an attempt to get to his ship, Brandon very casually snaps extremely thick chains. Snapping a chain like this can be Class 1 or Class 5.
  • After his true nature is revealed, Brandon's father takes him into the woods under the pretence of a hunting trip. In actuallity, his father shoots him in the heat with a rifle or sniper (I don't know much about guns), but he is unharmed and holds his hand to his head out of confusion and anger. His father plans to shoot him again and looks down for a moment, after which he sees that Brandon escaped his line of sight, with a shot above the forest revealing he's even left the general area. It's actually shown later that he's in full costume, implying he went back to his house and got dressed in seconds.
  • While attacking his house (which is 2 storeys in height), Brandon's strikes clearly shake the entire building quite violently, causing furniture to turn over and fragile objects to break, walls and small parts of the ceiling to crumble, lights to short out, etc. Later, we see whole sections of the house are destroyed.
In the post credit scene there's also a news report (not the collapsing building). But I can't remember what it said.

Probably when he splattered the police officer all over their porch.
 
He also caused a large forest fire.

Tbh I thought the jaw scene was fun, but I guess i am use to cgi now lol, I mean I watch asylum movies, and literally anything is better than that.
 
Honestly I kinda liked the jaw kill (that said I hated how fake it looked)

Also does the office complex feat really work?

But we don't know if that is the case or not. Also what is the AP of a large forest fire? I am guessing it is Enviormental Damage, but still. I am also guessing it is depends how long it took he to cause it, which is unknown. Probably will need his after credit stuff calced.
 
True but it feels more consistent with what he's shown (for example not collapsing his house in a single hit)

It's possibky overtime with the forest as well
 
Saw the film a couple days ago

It was alright in my opinion. Like, one one hand, I like that people are doing something different with the super hero movie genre beyond action thrillers or comedy, but at the same time, some of the writing in the film was kinda meh. Brandon in general was just kind of a flat character. He goes from socially awkward but generally kind kid to sociopathic murder in the span of 10 minutes because he heard voices from his space ship.

It would've been better if we saw more of an internal struggle with Brandon, with him trying and wanting to use his powers for good but his innate desire for violence along with the bullying he recieves from everyone slowly pushing him towards the path of evil. It would've made his final speech to his mother more meaningful, because for most of the movie, Brandon is never seen trying to use his powers for good, only using it to satisfy his primal desires. I think they wanted to go with this route, but they ended up following the usual horror movie troupes but with a superhero twist on it.

Though I liked how they set up a number of sequels and an extended universe where super powered individuals use their powers for evil.

Tldr, the movie was a solid 6/10

Plan to add Crimson Bolt soon. SHUT UP CRIME! Also another referance to good ol' Frank Darbo is the name of the Diner, Darbo's iirc. It was confirmed by James that is owned by Frank.
 
I suppose, or Brightburn/Super as, atm, those are the only movies confirmed in the verse. Though, in an interview, Gunn did talk about a possible connection to the film "Slither".
 
If it was a hunting trip then it would likely be some form of hunting rifle.
