It’s also blatantly spiteful, with the OP only making it because he cannot imagine a tier 9 winning against Zeno, and other members voting for Sans just to get at him.

So in either case, I'd change the macron letters. This change would be in accordance with a similar name change recently adopted on the Bleach Wiki, since those romanizations with macron letters were erroneous.

To briefly explain, the name So-u-suke (惣右介) has clear morpheme boundaries between the different kanji, and morphemes (in this case So-u) are never contracted with a macron when separated by a clear word border like that. It's actually the same reason for why Orihime Inoue is written like that, instead of Inōe. For "Ichibe'e" it's the same deal. Since it's three kanji separated by clear word borders (一兵衛), contracting the long vowel with a macron (ē) would be wrong.

I'm not an expert on Japanese, so I can't comment on what the best version is linguistically but I think a lot more fans of the series are going to be more familiar with Sōsuke Aizen which is also what the official English translation uses.
