A dragon fights a monkey - Tohru vs Jin Mo-Ri

I think all dragons get close when fighting tbh. Last time I saw a fight scene in Kobayashi they weren't really taking advantage of range and were trying to get close.

That's because everyone in Dragon Maid has great range so there's no point in them trying to play the range game.

That said, in fights like Ilulu vs Tohru and Tohru vs Elma there were ranged attacks thrown around every so often.

Even then hit and run tactics are a thing. Only tossing that out there. Not entirely sure who to vote for yet.

My memory might be fuzzy too but Ilulu almost died twice to enemies who don't exactly exhibit range advantage

Ilulu almost died to Cremene because she was already severely wounded and weakened from previous fights.

Azad caught her completely by surprise by not only being able to teleport, something wizards can't usually pull off in the universe, but also using holy weapons and clothing.

So there is a very good reason for both scenarios why Ilulu almost died and neither have to do with her just choosing not to get out of range. In fact she was able to escape Azad at all because she hit him with an AoE fire attack from at least dozens of meters away.

Hit and run tactics are indeed a thing, but Tohru has no reason to use them since it's in her best interest and much easier to just stay hundreds of meters to kilometers away and snipe him until his finite stamina runs out.

Still 4 for dragon maid. Just 3 more to go.
