Well, he used it to keep up once he realized he couldn´t get back by normal means, so it´s safe to say that he would at least try to use it once he notices his leading moves don´t work as expected.

As for the ****** part, well, Plankton has done stuff like that to Spongebob before, which quickly just backfired at him, so Spongebob should also have experience in that topic, so he can take advantage of it.
