Because he'd be in a place hidden from his target, he'd be there trying to see where the hell is he and the higher ground seems like an appropriate place for that as a Ninja.

what is percy doing in the tennis court?????????

Just so that he'd be also hidden from Naruto (he's beside those quite high walls) and a tiny bit away from the pool, so that it takes some effort for him to get to his instawin with regen, magics and etc
