One has to actually prove that though. Does changing/affecting the soul reflect in the material body in some way? Is there anything else beyond just being called "essence" cause that's not a unique term for normal souls either.

This is more promising. That said, it's been brought up that this might be an expression of the souls being fundamental information, as they currently are, so I withhold judgement till that is settled.So glad that I have these screenshots when I'm playing the event quest.
