UNDERTALE/DELTARUNE [shiny new] DISCUSSION THEAD

The current state of UT/DR downgrades

Though a premonition told me that the DR downgrades are coming after CH5 releases, which would already be too late for the 7-B ratings, which are dying when King reveals that the Titan we fought was a baby or smth
I don't think the Titan should be 7-B even today, since 7-B is his entire existence and he shoots small portions of itself as an attack.

If a universe-sized being shoots a galaxy at you, the attack would still be galaxy.

But we still have comically large TV.

(There's a photo album inside the drawer.)
(There are photos of... Huh?)
(A card is sticking out from the back flap of the binder.)
(It's a poorly drawn picture of three smiling people.) (Written on it...)
"don't forget." - First drawer, Sans's workshop
Three smiling people is def Fun Gang. It's drawing cus they can't photo Ralsei. Implying Sans was in DW
"Don't forget"
being literally a Deltarune motto should put this to rest, UT Sans is DEFINITELY DR Sans

Yeah... it's like scaling humans to 9-C because they weigh 70 kg... Wait, what?

What.

That's not a theory, that's so likely to be true that Toby would actively have to sabotage his own story for it to be wrong.

DR Sans is a past version of UT Sans. That's why he can't read expressions and tell Susie was hurt like he could in UT. That's why he instictively knew the voice behind the door in the ruins in UT, and KNEW Toriel would like the old dishes joke (DR Toriel will likely tell that joke to Sans). That's why UT Sans talks about "going back" to another place, why he has such knowledge about the surface despite "not ever being there" in UT. Why Frisk sees a photo of Sans with unfamiliar people. it's likely Susie, Kris and Noelle, none of which Frisk would recognize.

The song "it's raining somewhere else" for UT Sans dinner being played again as "the place where it rained" for DR Sans, and it being significant to UT Sans because that's when he first had a real connection to Toriel.

UT Sans being a future DR Sans isn't a theory, that's literally just the story lmao
Tbh, I don't like this theory that much. I know there's like 3 chapters left, but I'm kinda worried sans' meta shenanigans or his scientific background are just gonna be skimmed over, when I found those to be some of the most interesting parts about his character. And we're not even seeing his actual full backstory then, he just moved into Hometown, where did he live before that?! You're telling me were supposed to believe that sans is supposed to emotionally attached to a town he's lived in for like a week and three people who he's like only acquaintances with? He let Toriel into his shop when it was raining and in return she invited him over that's not really a deep connection. Most of this just feels like headcanon tbh. Sorry for coming off as kinda harsh.

Toby has to lock in if this theory is true, because I don't see any reason for sans to have any sort of emotional attachment to these people yet.

"Guys, sans Undertale can't be sans deltarune because Toby said he doesn't wanna make plushies of the lightworlders!"

Have you considered that UT Sans has basically no backstory and this would definitely just fill literally all the mysteries.

Susie got two new best friends in three days and changed her personality completely.

Everything’s a theory if Toby himself doesn’t descend from the heavens to tell you the truth personally

Yeah, but was because she went on a life changing adventure, sans hasn't done anything like that yet. I assume Toby is obviously gonna do something like that eventually. It just feels weird that none of his fourth wall breaking or science stuff hasn't had any sort of meaningful mention yet when that was some pretty big lore from him.

We don't know what Sans has been doing in the past time. He could just have been getting genuine connection while we are in the DW.

I'm just saying, an 'unrealistic' timeframe for a connection is nothing Toby hasn't done before. It also doesn't change the fact this theory makes the most sense.

Why can he break the fourth wall? (And no, this isn't just a non-canon gag he literally references it after you come back and uses it for a semi-serious emotional moment)

What's the deal with KARMA?

How is he so smart?

These are really the only things I'm expecting deltarune to answer if it contains sans' backstory. (Not that sans really needs a backstory tbh)

Magic

Because he's smart
I can excuse him having weird powers because Undertale is a meta game and it could just be justified in-universe by sans being made to be the final boss by design. But if he's just some guy from deltarune's world why would he have these powers if not to be Undertale's final boss?

And for him being smart, like he's like an actual genius. It feels so weird that deltarune hasn't touched on that part of his backstory yet.

Because his biology as transform bio energy into magic.

He literally talk about clopen tho..

Hmm, I don't think all the calculations are useless, although it's funny how some reach absurdly comical tiers.

The calculation of Frisk destroying a wall, huh, it's impossible to know the feat.

The calculation of the ice cap spike might yield something, depending on the logic, of course it's inflated, but I think it would at least give a 9-B level;

The mad dummy calculation might work depending on how we look at it.

There's also that UNDERTALE 5th Anniversary Alarm Clock Winter Dialogue from Undyne that seems interesting to calculate.

There's also a second dialogue mentioned sideways from Annoying Dog dodging cell phone waves? (I don't know, I haven't researched it thoroughly yet).

It also reminds me of Frisk's web feat which, depending on how it's calculated, could reach class M.

But anyway, these are my observations, I haven't analyzed them very deeply, but at first glance, they seem useful.

It's just a form of magic he has. Why does Toriel have fire magic? Because she does.

Do we need an explanation for every smart character? He's smart.

If you wanna say she has fire magic because of her "being a demon" (because she's a goat ig, which has relations to satanic imagery), Sans's KARMA is pretty easy to explain as him having it because he's a judge.
Yeah, they are literally kinda are vibes/role in the narrative

You kinda found out that the Device is literally literacy

Obviously, there's not no reason for every monster's magic. Some of their powers are arbitrary, but some have a kind of meaning behind why it's that power specifically.
Would have been a lot funnier if Undyne had trident instead of spears because tridents are a polearm used for hunting fish

There is reason but homestuckfied by toby like we already have Greek motifs in both deltarune and undertale to comfirm this

But he's not a judge in deltarune, he runs a convenience store. (If he's from deltarune, why does he have magic? Then again, he kinda teleports in chapter 4)

I was trying to offer an explanation, not that he needs one to have an ability like that. It's still makes sense for him to end up in the judge role with KARMA.
