Long-time scalers on the wiki, what got you into scaling and to this wiki?

I just want to tell how I got into scaling, but I'm not sure if I can be considered as a long-time scaler (I can't calc and scale beyond 5-C, let alone tier 1 stuff)

I've been here for 5 years and i can't remember for the life of me how ended up here. It's like i was kidnapped and got stockholm syndrome and just stuck around at my own free will.

I basically just found VSBW through Google searching. Wikia's SEO is so strong that I ended up stumbling across VSBW pages back in 2014 and just had fun browsing through them. I eventually made this account in 2016, though I actually had an older one that I forgot about. Wikia was the name FANDOM used back then by the way.

As for how I got into scaling and the like, I honestly don't remember anymore.

It's a pretty long story tbh. While I do remember a lot of stuff vividly, I will just keep it short and just post some highlights.

Late-May 2011, a friend introduced me to DMC4 and Dante, over the top and stylish action, flamboyant and non chalant demeanor. Got hooked.

Christmas Holidays, December 2011, stumbled upon Darth Vader vs Hitler 2 from Epic Rap Battles of History. ERB was pretty popular and trending between our buddies.
But it couldn't scratch a particular itch. Like it was missing something.

Then in 2013, I stumbled upon the original Goku vs Superman Death Battle. That was my first and proper introduction to powerscaling.
It was fun and all between the buddies as we discussed the arguments and outcomes of other death battles.

But we needed more matchups to satisfy us. So we started using our own favourite characters or even niche or obscure characters. So that's where my friend and I came in to rep Dante. I wasn't familiar with the franchise much at the time having only played DMC4 and the reboot. However my friend was even more engaged with powerscaling at the time and he was the one who introduced me to Comicvine and Neongamewave and his arguments for Dante. Circa 2014 ish.

And at around the same time I stumbled upon the Wiki's profile for Dante and he was rated Universal similar in line to NGW's reasonings iirc.

However, I didn't join the wiki or the other forums for a long while as I found them too toxic and several problematic users causing trouble. And was not that into powerscaling for a while.

Circa 2018
The wiki started kinda getting a lot better especially with regards to profiles, arguments, statistics etc around 2018-19 ish and Kep was finally bringing back Universal DMC again. Also DMC5 brought some interest back in the franchise and I started lurking in the sites again.

While I wanted to join at the time, there were talks about the Forum move so I waited for it.

And then COVID happened. And other RL stuff too that made it difficult to engage or spend much time in this hobby.

So I finally joined the wiki in 2022.

EDIT 1: It's embarassing, now that I think about it, that I have been glazing a character for almost 15 years atp

EDIT 2: Oh btw I did think of joining Comicvine around 2019 ish. But that time it was going through some drama with Sungasm and his alts. Then there was the Gilgamesh(Fate) wank, Gilgamesh solos fiction heck above fiction, is capable of affecting real life. Most of it was Godgate, and I really don't know if he was trolling or actually serious.

I google'd "Archie Sonic vs The Flash" as a clueless teen in early 2017, and the first result was of a year-old versus thread back when everything was still on Fandom. I lurked ever since, then created an account proper in December of 2017. The rest is history.

I've since graduated High School, got my Bachelors Degree in English & Writing, got a loyal girlfriend, and found a well-paying job. Crazy to think I've been contributing to this site for 9 years all throughout.

Anyways. I was watching a lot of edits back in the day, until I stumbled upon Capeditz and got hooked on his/her/their edits (Cap used to have one of the most cracked consistency at the time). And I either stumbled upon one of Cap's videos where VS Battles Wiki was mentioned, or just tried to figure out "what does these power levels even mean?" after watching series of Cap's characters scaling. And then I created VSBW account for scaling the most out of pocket things that barely have any action/battles involved just for fun of it and out of curiosity

Had a Dragon Ball phase as an early teenager where I was interested with the concept of strongest characters in fiction, happened to stumble across the wiki after googling for Zeno, and then I lurked for the vast majority of my time here.

I first got into vsbw when I was searching for the Core from Amphibia

I talked with a guy in a Facebook group arguing that Kami Tenchi is the strongest character in fiction
I searched it and found vswiki

Then I start using it for a good while during the RWBY hype and check it out everynow and then when interesting deathbattle happens

Finally joined when I saw First_Witch Bahamut's profile sandbox and decided to index Granblue

Well, since everyone else is sharing

Masked got into VS because they were trying to explain scaling to their sister
Their sister wanted to know how strong Link was, and Masked realized they didn't have a concrete answer
So Masked searched it up and found VS Wiki
This was the era of 3-A Link from Triforce scaling, at least 6 years ago.
They remember being disappointed, since the profile they found was a Composite Link

They were somewhat enamored with the classification system for stats like AP
And ended up frequenting the site

This account was made about 3 years ago, but
Masked never committed to joining the wiki properly

That changed when the "Tenten Upscale CRT" went through in January
and Rock Lee's page wasn't updated properly: the only thing changed was the AP section
Several members, like LordGriffin and Antvasima, expressed problems due to lack of manpower on the site
So Masked formalized their account and began updating pages with old CRTs

And here we are.

into scaling
I was very interested in videos like "Character vs Character power levels" or those sprite animation fights between characters, so I kept searching on stuff related to them, and found people in discord servers using powerscaling terms when fictional fights are mentioned.
went to the wiki...
After finding out about scaling, I started searching on it more on stuff like YouTube, which led me to those VSBW slander videos, so I got in and checked the profiles, then found out about the external forum, and for a long while, I just kept looking around until like in 2024, a friend of mine wanted me to propose something on the wiki (cuz I have a PC and they don't) so I made an account and got in here.

I know I'm not a "long time scaler" on here technically.

Been here since like what, 2017 or 2018? I don't remember how I got here, but I do remember joining the Earthbound community during its peak.
I remember now! I actually first started on Death Battle Fanon Wiki of all places, but then I overheard about VSbattles being way better and decided to ditch DB Fanon Wiki.
I was also a part of the Google+ gang at the time, but also ditched it.

I accidentally stumbled upon it, began to edit cluelessly, and was banned for 6 months. I then came back and edited very constructively.

Polar-kun was absent, so I requested an administrator promotion from a Fandom staff member. Polar-kun continued to be absent, so my friend Kavpeny helped to organise a petition for our community to accept me as a bureaucrat, and Fandom promoted me to that as well.

Polar-kun continued to be absent, so we started a petition for me and Kavpeny to take over the wiki, as we did not want a bureaucrat who did nothing and we had no relationship with to interfere in our plans to improve on the wiki based on the work that our acquaintance (and later friend) DarkLK had made in the Anime Characters Fight Wiki.

Polar-kun returned at the last minute, and briefly promoted all then current staff members to bureaucrats to mess things up, but relented after Sannse the Fandom staff member and Kavpeny reasoned with him, after which only Kavpeny and I remained of the bureaucrats, but Kavpeny promoted DarkLK to that position for a while as well.

We later began to gradually improve on the structure and quality of the wiki, and it eventually stabilised around over 100 times the popularity it had when I first came there.

Of course, the "funny" thing is that I have always been mostly uninterested in who can beat who powerscaling. I was initially just interested in providing a resource for as accurate statistics as possible, and later switched to feeling responsible for the wellbeing of the members of this community. 🙏

Watched Death Battle’s Yoshi vs Riptor at age 8 and never looked back. I was so convinced I was about to watch some Sonic .EXE type gore of Yoshi cuz I thought there was no way he could possibly win. I was pleasantly surprised.

Well, our community got to vote about it. Also, Polar-kun got to stay as an administrator. 🙏
I was just kidding, lol. But yeah at the time it really felt like a Pirate ship mutiny by the crew who want to depose the old captain with a new captain and quartermaster.

Did you have another account back then? 🙏

I got into powerscaling around 2020, mainly on ComicVine and Reddit. I was aware of VSBW but aside from checking the profiles every now and then, I wasn't really apart of the community and didn't really intend on joining until my favorite verse was at risk of dropping several tiers in power. At which point, I did more studying than I ever did in College and got the verse saved from the brink of oblivion.. I made an account for the Fandom and Forums for the sole purposes of saving my fav verse and did so a few months after creating an account; a fact I'm quite proud of ngl.
