Long-time scalers on the wiki, what got you into scaling and to this wiki?

I am just curious to see why people here got into scaling and went to the wiki...

Got this idea from a YouTuber talking about how "Movies back in my days were better", and it was the same movies I watched... Damn, I feel old...

I just love seeing how my favorite characters fare against others based on their feats.

I remember my first comment being on a SpongeBob VS Ash Ketchum 9-B thread where I voted for SpongeBob FRA (Remember the SpongeBob downplay era [Pre-2023]? Yeah, it was during that time).

First time knowing Powerscaling in mid 2023 through my TikTok fyp, especially about Genshin Impact verse. From there i joined their group on WhatsApp and made a new friends. Some of them is already on VSBW and they told me to made an account in here as well. And here i am, being one of the most knowledgeable of Genshin Impact verse.

Like it's so random, i just never thought that i'm gonna be a powerscaler lol.

I joined on like, 2017 or smth? So about 9 years (So early teenager). Though I was into debating even before that, because I loved glazing my goat Goku (like everyone did), and was into SCP as well. Saw some of the SCP profiles back then and I was like "Damn, this site is cool, and has everything."

As such, I stayed. That is not to say this wiki is when I first started, as I also used to argue a lot on Google+ (Rest in peace) forums, YouTube comment section, etc... even like, a year or two prior to Vsbattle.

I honestly think that because I joined when I was in my early-teenage years, it is the reason why I'm still in the wiki and hadn't left, as I got used to it too much. Not even powerscaling in general, but just this wiki, since I don't really bother with powerscaling outside of this wiki. I think if the wiki got nuked, I'd probably stop powerscaling altogether.

As for what got me into scaling in general, idk honestly? I think I was cursed even before adolescent, as I remember somewhat me and my cousin just talking about who beats who. Mostly dragon ball and Naruto. I also think that Dragon Ball fighting games on the PS2 (Especially Budokai Tenkaichi 3) definitely played a role on that as well.

God cursed me with VSbrainrot even before puberty🥀

I initially hopped into this wiki cause I vaguely heard mentions of vs wiki in YouTube comment sections and the like (obv negative). Was in the middle of Covid back in 2020 so I actually didn’t have much better to do. I looked around the pages for myself. Mainly MHA and Dragon Ball ones. I already liked Honkai Impact 3rd (which had minimal presence on the wiki around 2020), Demon Slayer and MHA at the time. So those got me to actually stay on the wiki after joining

I've been doing this since 2017 on obscure communities on Google+ (yes, I know), and in my teenage years, I was introduced to VSBW by one of my friends while debating Archie Sonic.

Google+ was a WILD place, holy. Every post was the exact opposite of another post in any community, with some having the weirdest and NLF arguments. Sonic was really everywhere there, and so was Goku. I also vaguely remember Godzilla being popular there, specifically the Godzilla in Hell varient. Man, It was hell. Yet I somehow enjoyed my time there.

I am curious now, what was it like? I have never even heard of it myself.
My memory is pretty foggy but iirc there were stuff like groups/communities where you can join (there were A LOT iirc), and there, you can make a post there saying whatever you want, and people can comment on it (which is how people debated there). It closed down in 2019, because, well, it was not really that successful. But man, the amount of powerscaling communities there were nuts. It was guaranteed that if you joined any PWS community, you'd at least see a couple of posts about Goku, Sonic, and probably Godzilla too immediately iirc.

Obviously, it required ur google account to join, so you'd often see people with their full legal name with a photo of themselves alone or with parents, arguing how "Goku will beat Sonic" or smth, which was, uh, quite the experience. It was a wild time, very hectic, and quite the toxic time as well lmao. But I enjoyed it quite a bit, at least back in the day.

I watched Death Battles. I was 14.

I wrote fan-made Death Battles. I was 15.

I heard about a wiki where these things were more formalized. I was intrigued, despite some bad press, so I joined. I was 16.

They banned me. I spent two years making my own wiki based entirely on VSBW. I learned how to do calcs. It was requested that I come back and be offered a Calc Group Member role. I was 18.

I am now 26. I cannot escape. The moss has grown over my bones and bound me to the structure of the place.

In Brazil, there was a Brazilian YouTube channel that made a Brazilian version of Death Battle. Basically, ever since I was a kid, I’ve been exposed to things related to power scaling.

After that, I just watched the debates but never participated; I just liked watching. I liked seeing people fighting with each other over powerscaling. VSBattle got me interested because of the fights that happened in those huge downgrade threads.

But I only created an account and started participating in the wiki because I liked Castlevania and decided to ask a few questions here.

I'm pretty new here, all things considered, but I first stumbled onto the site while searching for an image of a llama for a school project (yes, I'm serious), and the first result was from VSBW, so I clicked on it and became instantly fascinated by the site and how in-depth it was on such a specific topic like indexing fictional characters, it was also fun to see all the debates people had, so I just kinda stuck around since, and eventually created an account to contribute to the wiki.
I think at the time I was starting to get into powerscaling-related stuff like Death Battle, so I guess it made sense why I started to get so ingrained in the wiki at the time.

My memory isn't perfectly clear but one day in the good old 2015 I was like "what if Dante fought against X-character" which lead me towards fanfiction.net and eventually stumbled into this place.

It was around that time that I started using this site a lot when I was reading mangas or watching some series, I remember how it used to be less serious overall and just a bunch of dudes trolling. Pages were all copied from other sites, I think OBD was one of those.

I joined during 2018 after a while lurking in the shadows and since then I'm here wanking DMC.

I watched some Arabic debate videos in 2021. Then, in 2022 to 2024, I started discussing with some people, until one day in 2024 when I met @Lloydblitzed, who told me about the VSBW forum, which caught my attention.

Fate and Misfit of Demon King Academy got me into scaling and the wiki, but I was only observing the profiles and verse back then. I only started getting involved when I wanted to add Martial Peak.

I remember looking at this wiki, but I didn't exactly know what it was. I searched for something like how strong is Rimuru and saw his WN profile. After some years, I got on Reddit and saw some Azathoth vs battle in the powerscaling sub, which led me into powerscaling and back here.

(Not a long-time user here but anyway) Hmm... I can't exactly recall how I came across this wiki first, but I remember the reason I first started lurking here was when I stumbled across a thread about AVA (before it's deletion, rest its soul). As for scaling in general it's most likely (snicker) Undertale AUs about 4 or so years ago, or random tiktok edits, possibly a combination of those two.

As a child I was obsessed with asking people who would win between certain animals. I'd ask about "Lion Vs. Tiger" or "Twelve monkeys Vs. One Rhino". This would always just be between me and my dad, maybe whatever friends I had. I was also super into Pokemon at the time, so I started adding those in. People tended to lose interest when I added in anything other than real animals, haha.

I did watch a couple Death Battles but idk how much that impacted me lol

So, years went by, I eventually found the Pokemon pages on the wiki through google searches. I eventually found my way to the old forums (back when they were apart of the same site) and made some very stompy matches. I was SO surprised to find that others shared this interest. I vividly remember putting Pearl from Steven Universe against Rayquaza from Pokemon. Pearl was 7-A and Rayquaza was tier 5, but I didn't think the tiers mattered all that much. I also didn't understand scaling (I thought every character had to be scaled based on their own feats and borrow nothing). I remember someone commenting "absolute gigastomp" and I had no idea what any of that meant

I eventually learned how the whole vs thing worked, and I'm still here. I was like 16, am 22 now. Learned to calc about a year or two ago :p

I've been a regular viewer for Death Battle since the series was created back in 2010, and I also remember a multitude of DB inspired series; particularly Fatal Fiction and remember some times with Cartoon Fightclub. I discovered the wiki in 2016 when I heard that ProtoDude/ClassicGameGuys historically contributed to VSBW and also when I heard debates about "Who the strongest Anime character is" with Kami Tenchi (Who was Tier 0 at the time) being a common mention. Then I later created an account and became a regular user in January 2017.
