TOAA vs GodzillaGODZILLA CONQUERS THE MULTIVERSE!
From what I’ve read, this new series takes the King of the Monsters into the Marvel multiverse, where alternate realities reveal new versions of both familiar heroes and kaiju.

Not only that, they also want him to go up against and shake up all the Marvel characters. lolThey really want to give him the 1-A scale, right?
Your Marvel thread on that is still open, right? Depending on how the comics turn out, are you planning to revisit the topic? At this point big G is gonna get enough issues to get features on profiles lmao
maybe, maybe not, Marvel is just kinda ass to scale, I mean, Marvel Goji has gone from High 6-C to Low 1-C and is now High 3-A again.Your Marvel thread on that is still open, right? Depending on how the comics turn out, are you planning to revisit the topic?
Understandable.maybe, maybe not, Marvel is just kinda ass to scale, I mean, Marvel Goji has gone from High 6-C to Low 1-C and is now High 3-A again.
WOther than the MV you should definitely watch 1954 (subbed) and Minus 1. Other than those two, I would say Godzilla 2000 is a good starting point (I may be biased cuz that was the first Toho Godzilla I watched). I saw it on hulu a couple years back but I don’t think it’s on there anymore.
If you are into physical media there is a full set of all of all 15 showa era films (1954-1975) from the Criterion Collection that comes with a cool book with illustrations, and bonus content on the discs (including the original english versions of Godzilla: King of the Monsters! and King Kong vs Godzilla). It’s like at least $150 so you might not want to start with all of that tho.
Unfortunately for Westerners (IDK if this is different in Japan but I’m gonna assume so), most of the older films aren’t on big streaming services, so you’ll probably have to scrounge around amazon or smth for discs, or do some renting and buying from stuff like Prime Video or Apple TV (if you want to do it legally, ofc there’s always piracy, but these are a lot better on actual TVs with big screens, and pirating them on those is more complicated than computers/phones).
Also whatever you do PLEASE do not start with the Godzilla Earth anime trilogy of movies, they are not good.
So, basically what everyone else has suggested is on point. 1954 and -1.0 are definitely musts, with Shin and 2014 also being great starts. I'd start with those, but if you feel like continuing, the early and late Showa series has some of the best ones. Amazon has a few on streaming, like Ghidorah, The Three Headed Monster and Invasion of the Astro-Monster, both of which are good and contain some of the better (or at least more interesting) human plots. Actually the Showa series is underrated in that on rewatching them, the human plots though strange, are often compelling.i'll assume this one is the 2016 movie and will note those too
thank you for the time
I think Nonynho might get a bit dizzy with so many recommendations, haha, but there have already been a lot of great suggestions here.noted, will probably give tiny reviews whenever i watch those
thank you
Not at all, it became kind of a hobby to enter a verse with a bizillion amount of ways to experience and disentangle it to make sense lmaoI think Nonynho might get a bit dizzy with so many recommendations, haha
I love science fiction, but SP, for me, was reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally boringGodzilla Singular Point might not be ideal if you don’t enjoy hard science fiction.
Haha, I get that, it’s actually pretty satisfying once you start piecing everything together. Turning something that messy into something that makes sense can be weirdly fun.Not at all, it became kind of a hobby to enter a verse with a bizillion amount of ways to experience and disentangle it to make sense lmao
Haha, so do you prefer media that’s mostly packed with action and explosions, or was it just something about SP’s pacing that didn’t click for you?I love science fiction, but SP, for me, was reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally boring
200% the second optionHaha, so do you prefer media that’s mostly packed with action and explosions, or was it just something about SP’s pacing that didn’t click for you?
Megaten saga was really fun for me to engage on that type of searchHaha, I get that, it’s actually pretty satisfying once you start piecing everything together. Turning something that messy into something that makes sense can be weirdly fun.
I think they make plenty of sense on their own. Maybe not the best intro to Mothra, but if you watch the MV or the original before that then you’ll get her whole deal anyway. For the Kiryu Saga, you’d need to watch some earlier films to fully understand the last two entries.
It’s a very casual friendly film though imo and it introduces you to a lot of Godzilla’s expanded rogues gallery.Godzilla: Final Wars is fun, but it has some unusual elements like The Matrix-style references and humans with super saiyan-like powers, so I wouldn’t recommend it as a starting point.
Heisei I agree but mainly for the Junior trilogy. The Showa films are all quite standalone so make for good watches without having seen the previous ones. But I think just watch those eras if you like the Monsterverse or Millenium stuff. Also, the Showa era Godzilla films and Heisei era Godzilla films are best watched in order, so I wouldn’t recommend jumping into them randomly.
Yes, they should be watched after seeing the original. I’d argue that the original should be one of the first you watch as it’s one of the most influential monster movies ever and still probably the best film in the series. The Millennium era films also generally require you to watch the 1954 film to fully understand them.
Yeah, that makes sense. It’s not even about slow vs fast, SP just has a very specific style and pacing that doesn’t click with everyone. Even if you like slower sci-fi like Dune, SP leans a lot more into dense exposition and abstract concepts, so it can feel harder to get into.200% the second option
I live sci-fi slow stuff (like Dune for example) but it reeeeeeeeally didn't work for me
I see.Megaten saga was really fun for me to engage on that type of search
What’s the point of watching the Kiryu Saga if you’re just going to start with the last two films?I think they make plenty of sense on their own. Maybe not the best intro to Mothra, but if you watch the MV or the original before that then you’ll get her whole deal anyway.
It’s definitely accessible and fun, but I don’t think it works well as an entry point for the GodzillaVerse. It’s a very casual friendly film though imo and it introduces you to a lot of Godzilla’s expanded rogues gallery.
I get what you mean about the Showa films being more standalone, but I’d still say they benefit a lot from context.Heisei I agree but mainly for the Junior trilogy. I get why you’d recommend starting with the original, especially given how influential it is. I agree with you.Snip
I was going to reply to you, but Ztes did it first, and I agree with his arguments.Snip
There’s only really 3 (at best 4) films. Other films are referenced but aren’t that relevant. Like, you don’t need to watch Dogora to understand anything that’s going on in that film. What’s the point of watching the Kiryu Saga if you’re just going to start with the last two films?
Maybe one to check out after the MV though if you want to quickly see some of his expanded roguesIt’s definitely accessible and fun, but I don’t think it works well as an entry point for the GodzillaVerse.
You only need to watch Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster to see that though. That has him transition from a villain to an antihero.I get what you mean about the Showa films being more standalone, but I’d still say they benefit a lot from context.
Even if the plots aren’t strictly continuous, there’s still a sense of progression, like how Godzilla’s role shifts from a destructive force to more of a protector, or how recurring monsters and concepts are introduced and built upon.
It depends what they’re into though. If they want big blockbuster action, Final Wars, Tokyo SOS or Monsterverse, if they want character drama with some good Monster stuff in between, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla or Minus One, if they want a film that comments on the political climate of the time, 1954 and Shin Godzilla.I get why you’d recommend starting with the original, especially given how influential it is. But I don’t think it’s the best first entry for everyone.
For someone used to modern filmmaking, Godzilla (1954) can feel quite slow-paced and dialogue-heavy compared to what they might expect from the series. If they go in looking for something closer to the action and spectacle of newer films, it might not hook them right away.
Although I have to admit I’ve tried to introduce people to the franchise for years and haven’t had much success, so Godzilla definitely isn’t for everyone.200% the second option

I can relate to that... Godzilla and the other kaiju don’t appear very often, so much of the runtime ends up focusing on human characters and dialogue.Although I have to admit I’ve tried to introduce people to the franchise for years and haven’t had much success, so Godzilla definitely isn’t for everyone.
i just never knew where to start but to know that he was supposed to be just "big radioactive monster who wreck stuff" but he actually has got layers and multiple storylines per installment, and that always captivated me. Have fun, I had a blast rewatching them and finding new ways to appreciate them.i just never knew where to start but to know that he was supposed to be just "big radioactive monster who wreck stuff" but he actually has got layers and multiple storylines per installment, and that always captivated me. Honestly, the hardest part is just figuring out where to start. Once you pick a direction, it gets way easier to follow. At best, the Godzilla from that game would scale somewhere between Tier 3-A and Low 2-C, but there are already so many Godzillas on the wiki that you get what I mean.Has anyone done anything for the scaling in Super Robot Wars Y? I've heard that it has some impressive scaling but I haven't played the game yet
I think there was a page that was deleted in one of the many Godzilla purges, but I could be wrongHas anyone done anything for the scaling in Super Robot Wars Y? I've heard that it has some impressive scaling but I haven't played the game yet
This wasn’t the case, at least not for that specific SRW version of Godzilla.I think there was a page that was deleted in one of the many Godzilla purges, but I could be wrong
Hey, nice to meet you. These past couple of years, new Godzilla fans have been appearing every week lol. By the way, I think the atomic or subatomic level thing was already rejected several times before by staff members, if I remember correctly.Currently watching Godzilla VS Kong. I found a scan in the intro that states that Godzilla's atomic breath can "ionise hydrogen isotopes, <out of frame text> plamsa". Which would be consistent with how Godzilla's atomic breath comes from nucleosynthetic glands in his throat. You can see the definition of 'ionise' here. I'm of the belief that Godzilla's atomic breath can destroy things on a either an atomic or subatomic level. If this is acceptable then this would upscale many feats, and in turn many Titans.
I personally don't see why that'd be the case. Mind filling me in?Hey, nice to meet you. These past couple of years, new Godzilla fans have been appearing every week lol. I don’t really remember the exact details or arguments since those threads are pretty old, so I can’t give a precise breakdown of what was said at the time, sorry about that.I personally don't see why that'd be the case. Mind filling me in?
Side note: Always been a Godzilla fan, just joined this thread now because why not?

Not to discourage you, but usually what gets rejected on this wiki is much less likely to be accepted later on.Oh well, opinions can change
